And really, so do I, though in a much deeper, more profound way.

Yep, I love Hayden Harrington.

Maybe I’ll even tell him that tonight.

And maybe he’ll say it back.

I mean, Ithinkhe loves me.

It feels that way.

But we’ll see.

Damn it, I just want him to say it out loud.

Tossing my phone in my bag and letting out a frustrated groan, I leave my office and head home.

A few hours later, after heating up leftovers for dinner and taking a long, hot shower that leaves me feeling quite relaxed, I pack a small overnight bag in my bedroom and then get ready to head next door to Hayden’s house.

We exchanged alarm codes and backup spare keys a few weeks ago. That was when we were still just friends. It seemed like the prudent thing to do after my deck incident.

Of course, directly after that night, we never would have done that. But oh, how times have changed.

Shaking my head and smiling as I zip up my bag, my cell starts ringing.

It can’t be Hayden, as the game against Columbus, which I plan to watch over at his house, is just about to begin.

As I grab my cell from where it’s lying on my bed, I flip it around so I can see the screen.

Wow, it’s Kristi.

Curious as to why she’s getting back in touch with me after so many unreturned calls and texts on my part, I answer rather flippantly, “Hey. It’s been a minute, huh?”

Sounding contrite—but with her, you never know—she says, “Aw, Addison, I’m sorry. I know I missed a bunch of your calls.”

“And texts,” I toss out.

“Yeah, those too. I planned on getting back to you, I really did. But I’ve just beensobusy with my boyfriend.”

Though she can’t see me, I roll my eyes. “Would that still be the guy from the team?”

“Yes.”

I don’t even bother asking which player he is. I really don’t want to know. She doesn’t volunteer the info either.

What she does say is “Guess who I ran into last night in Chicago?”

Hmm, last night was the Thunder’s game against the Blackhawks.

Carefully, I ask, “Um, who?”

Smugly, she replies, “I saw Hayden Harrington, in the flesh and in person. Can you believe it?”

Hmm, I don’t like the sound of this.

My heart rate quickens, and I have to wonder why Hayden hasn’t mentioned this to me. It seems rather pertinent, as he did have his dick in the girl. I’d like to know when he “runs into” her, especially “in the flesh and in person.”

“Oh, really?” I reply slowly. “And just where did you see him?”
