Page 52 of Never Letting Go

Ariana looked back and forth between the hallway and her best friend’s little sister. “I’ll protect you from him. Come on, and tell me about what happened on the way.”

She grabbed Ari’s arm. “Don’t make me go!”

Ari relented. Damon could handle himself, and Bella needed her. “I’ll take you back to your room. You don’t happen to know where the stairs are?”

“Not around here.”

“We’ll find some.” She started walking.

Bella groaned, took off her one shoe, then caught up.

“What happened to your sister?” Ari asked.

“We got separated when the guy came after us.”

“He attacked her too?”

Bella shook her head. “When Luci and I went in different directions, he went after me.”

“She must’ve gone back to your room. Let’s head that way. Tell me everything you can about him.”

“He was wearing a mask.”

“What kind of mask?” Ariana asked.

“Like from the party.”

“And you didn't recognize him?”

“No,” Bella said. “Isn’t that the point of the masks?”

“What was he wearing?”

“A suit.”

Ariana wanted to throw her arms in frustration. “I need more details! What color was his suit? Do you remember what color his tie was? Did he have a beard? What color was his hair?”

Bella looked like she was about to burst into tears. “I don’t know! All I really noticed was the knife!”

“He had a knife?”

“A big, sharp one like you’d use to cut through a turkey.”

“Was it bloody?” Ariana asked.

“No. It was shiny and caught the light.”

“Okay, that’s good. What else can you tell me?”

“His voice was scratchy.”

“Scratchy?”

“Like he’d been yelling a lot.”

According to Grayson, Trey had been going off in the ballroom while accusing him of killing Mateo. Would that have been enough to wear out his voice?

“That’s good,” Ari said. “Can you tell me anything else about him?”
