“Did he—”

“Where’s Grayson?” Mr. Ramirez interrupted.

“He went to help Damon.”

“Why?”

“The killer attacked me!” Bella burst into tears. “I barely got away!”

Rita bolted upright in bed. “What?”

Bella climbed into bed with her sister, sobbing.

“You were attacked?” Rita exclaimed. “And Grayson went after the attacker?”

“And Emerson is missing!” Mr. Ramirez went back to pacing, this time speaking in rapid Spanish.

“Don’t say that!” Rita glared at him and covered her sister’s ears.

Grayson’s dad stopped pacing and gave Ariana a funny look. “Why are you drenched?”

“My husband and I went outside to see if my dad was back with the police. But we didn’t see him, so we went to the entrance and saw several fallen trees. The police aren’t coming, and we’re trapped here.”

Rita gasped.

“That’s great,” Mr. Ramirez muttered. “All while Emerson is missing. Why is the killer going after only our family? I don’t understand!”

“He also attacked me.” Bella sniffled. “But I hit him in the head with my shoe, so he should at least have a headache. The heel took out some hair, so I know I got him good.”

“Both my sons are out there with a killer going after family members of the bride and groom? I’m going to find them!” He raced from the room, slamming the door behind him.

Rita looked at Ari. “Did I hear you say we’re trapped?”

She hesitated.

“Don’t hold anything back.”

“It’s true. There’s no way in or out. The police can’t get here, and we can’t leave. Not with a bunch of fallen trees blocking the only road.”

Bella wailed louder.

Rita rubbed her back. “The guys will stop him. He won’t be able to fight both Grayson and Damon. Plus, now Ricardo is going after them. That’s three against one.”

“He has aknife!”

“Do we have any idea who the killer is?” Rita asked.

Ariana nodded. “Grayson seemed pretty sure it’s Trey.”

“Why?”

“Because Trey was accusing him of killing Mateo.”

“That’s ridiculous!” Rita’s expression tensed. “Grayson was completely heartbroken when he saw Mateo! I’ve never seen someone so upset. Nobody weeps like that if they don’t mean it. I can tell you with full certainty, my fiancé is innocent.”

“I’m not questioning you,” Ariana said.

Rita climbed out of bed. “We have to do something!”
