“Come on, this is a good one too.” His voice held a hint of pleading. “I’ll even let you lead. I’m shit at taking the lead.”

I wrapped one arm around his waist and put my hand up for him to grasp before guiding him around the dance floor in a simple waltz. We looked into one another’s eyes as we moved around the floor. As I held him, my heart picked up pace and my mouth went dry. Once again, the rhythm of my heart pounded out the wordstoo soon, too soon, too soon. I didn’t care. It didn’t matter how soon it was. I needed to tell him.

I cleared my throat. “I need to tell you something.”

Cam furrowed his brow. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing’s wrong. I just… I wanted to tell you… I…”

“Whatever’s wrong, it’s okay. We’ll figure it out.”

“I love you,” I blurted. “I’m in love with you.”

His mouth pinched together. “Oh.”

“I’m sorry. I know it’s fast. I know we just met, really, and we’ve already taken a lot of big steps together.” I couldn’t seem to stop talking, uncharacteristically word-vomiting on him. “I just—”

Cam leaned in and kissed me, putting his hands on either side of my face. I pulled him close, arms around his waist. We kissed for several long moments, the room around us all but disappearing. When he pulled away, Cam rested his forehead against mine. “I love you, too.”

I grinned, big and goofy like a teenager who’d just found out their crush liked them back. “Yeah?”

He nodded. “Yeah.”

The music shifted and I remembered then that we weren’t alone, we were kissing on the dance floor of Cam’s friends’ wedding. I looked around to see his kickball buddies giving each other high fives and laughing in our direction. Parker handed a bill to one of the others, shaking his head and rolling his eyes.

“I think it’s time we went home, don’t you?” I whispered to Cam.

“That’s an excellent idea.” He stepped back, breaking the spell of the moment, and we went to say our goodbyes.

At our table, I fixed Parker with a steely gaze. “What was the bet?”

“Oh, I, uh—” He stumbled over his words.

Cam elbowed me. “Don’t be a dick.”

I dropped the tough look and smiled at Parker. “Do we get a cut?”

Jared shook his head. “No way. Way back in Vegas, I bet Parker that you two would fall in love before the wedding festivities were over and it looks like I was right. I won fair and square.”

I cleared my throat, still a little annoyed. “How do you know what we said? We were halfway across the room.”

Levi spoke up. “Bennett and I were spying on you from over there.” He pointed to a table near where we’d been dancing.

Cam sighed and stuck up both middle fingers. “That’s what I think of you assholes betting on my love life.” He said it without malice, though, and laughter followed.

I took Cam’s hand. “Can we go home now? I believe we have some post-wedding festivities to attend to.” To add emphasis, I let go of his hand and grabbed his ass.

“That means fucking,” Parker stage whispered to Levi, who smirked in our direction.

“Fuck all of you. I’m leaving.” Cam turned and walked away. I waved at the guys before following him to the parking lot. When we made it to the car, he hesitated before getting in the driver’s seat. “Did you mean it?”

“What? That I love you?”

He nodded slowly. “Yeah.”

“You don’t believe me?” My stomach turned at the thought of him thinking I’d just said that I loved him and not being honest about it.

A shy smile crept across his face. “I do. I just wanted to hear it again.”
