“I’m not about to change my mind. Everyone else will be busy. So that leaves you.” Teague looked him in the eye. “Besides, I thought you wanted to get away.”

“Yeah, well, that was then.”

“Think of it as doing a huge favor for the boss.”

When he put it like that…

Teague glanced back toward the bunkhouse before leaning on the rail. “Now that I’ve got you alone… Are you okay?”

The expression of concern warmed him.

“Yeah, I’m fine.”

“I’m sorry about last night. You caught me unawares.”

“It’s okay. I shouldn’t have turned up at your door at that hour in the first place.”

Teague inclined his head toward the bunkhouse. “So you knew Sol in high school? Talk about a small world.”

“Yeah. We haven’t seen each other since then.” The conversation over breakfast had gone a long way in eroding some of the intervening years.

Teague cocked his head to one side. “We good?”

Butch took a quick peek to make sure no one else was around. He sighed. “You were right, okay? I guess it was high time I was honest with myself.”

Teague smiled. “You have no idea how happy it makes me to hear you say that. I’m proud of you.”

Butch frowned. “What did I do to deserve that?”

“It takes guts to admit you were on the wrong path. But it does leave me wondering how this newfound sexuality will change things.”

Butch stared at him. “‘Newfound sexuality’?”

“Why sure. You told me yourself—you’re bi.”

“But what do you mean? Why should that change anything?”

Teague stroked his stubbled chin. “Well… My ass is out of the picture, so does that mean you’ll be going back to Bozeman or Livingston in search of pastures new? Now that you’d admitted you like fucking guys.”

Butch hadn’t even considered it. Hell, Teague had only called a halt a couple of days ago.

“I thought you said fucking wasn’t a good coping mechanism.”

“I’m not talking about finding someone to replace me.”

Butch frowned. “Then whatareyou talking about?”

“You, walking into a bar and catching some guy checking you out. A guy you find attractive, even sexy. One who gives you a hard-on justthinkingabout getting him in the sack. Fucking him not because you want to blot out whatever is in your head but because he’s hot.” Teague smiled. “Someone who might even make you happy, because Lord knows we all need a little of that.”

“And you think finding a guy will make me happy?”

Teague shrugged. “Look at the boss. You can’t deny how much happier he’s been since Toby came onto the scene.”

He was right. There was no denying that.

“And if I can give one last word of advice…”

“I don’t think I could stop you, so fire away.”
