She didn’t even hesitate. “Always.”

Together, we set off into the darkness, her a few steps behind me as I weaved my way through machinery. Last time I’d been here, we’d tried to stay in the light.

This time I chose darkness. In more than one way. I clenched my fingers around the brass knuckles so tight my fingers ached.

Behind us, the screams grew louder. I looked over my shoulder to see Caleb and two other men dragging women across the worksite while they fought and screamed and kicked with all their might, none of it to any avail.

Caleb’s curse when he found us gone from the shed echoed through the night air.

“Stupid little hos,” Caleb cooed loudly enough for us to hear from the shadows. “Not long to go now until you’re off to the life you deserve, sold off as some rich man’s dirty little sex slave secret.”

Bile rose in my mouth. Bliss stepped closer to me.

“He can’t find us.” Her voice was choked with fear.

But he could. He would.

And when he did, we’d be ready.

CALEB

Minutes earlier…

The slut with the blond hair bit and kicked at me, fighting me with everything she had.

It only made me enjoy slamming her down on the hard laminate floor all the more. I circled my fingers around her throat and whispered in her ear, “Stop your fucking bitching or I’ll keep you for myself. Trust me, sweetheart. You don’t want that.”

Something wild inside me settled at the fear in her eyes and the way her screams cut off into silence.

“Where’s the others?” Frank asked.

I snapped my head up, searching the room now full of sniveling women I couldn’t stand the sight of.

Two were missing.

Of course, they fucking were.

A scream bubbled up inside me, desperate to get loose, but I wouldn’t let it. I wouldn’t stoop to the level of pathetic in front of me. Instead, I let it swirl and build inside me.

They couldn’t have gotten far.

I’d find them.

Then I’d make them pay for disobeying me.

That would be the fun part.

“Hold down the fort.”

Frank looked at me. “What are we supposed to do with them? There’s four of them and only two of us.”

I passed him my gun. “Here.”

He took it eagerly. “What about you?”

I rolled my eyes. “I can handle two bound women without having to shoot them.”
