So the head bloodsucker was mated. Interesting.

“And Andrew is pregnant,” Logan added.

Rayne was floored. He wasn’t aware that could happen. A guy pregnant? “You buried the goddamn lead.”

“Had to build the tension.” Logan chuckled. “How in the fuck is that possible?”

“How is what possible?” Felix asked as he walked in, handing Rayne a cup of coffee. He wasn’t sure what he would do without Felix in his life. Rayne had never thought he could love someone as much as he loved his mate.

“Andrew turned out to be Eleazar’s mate.”

Felix’s jaw dropped. “I’m happy for him.”

Felix had once been Eleazar’s human servant, until Rayne had mated him. Eleazar had then disowned Felix as if the mating was some kind of betrayal.

“Andrew is pregnant,” Logan said.

Felix looked at Logan as if he had two heads. “Come again?”

“A very reliable source told me,” Logan confessed, “a vampire source, and don’t even think about judging me for having a bloodsucker who tips my ear to things.”

Rayne was still trying to figure out how a guy could be pregnant, and as much as he despised vampires, Andrew was human, with child, and someone had torched the estate.

“There’s two mates that I know of in the house,” Logan went on. “I don’t like vampires, but I also don’t like humans being put in danger.”

Neither did Rayne.

“I want you and Cable to find out who set the fire,” Rayne said.

“Are you serious?” Logan appeared confused. “Why should we care?”

“One, balance must be maintained. If Eleazar is killed, shit’s gonna hit the fan. We’ve already got enough of that going on. Two, if we find out who did it, Eleazar will owe us.” And there was nothing wrong with having the head honcho of vampires owing them.

Plus, as much as Rayne hated it, he knew Felix still cared for Eleazar. He’d been like a father to Felix, and those feelings didn’t simply vanish just because Eleazar had disowned him. Not entirely. When Felix had been kidnapped, Eleazar had sent his best to find him. So Rayne knew the vampire still held fatherly feelings toward Felix.

“I’ll grab my twin,” Logan said as he stood. “You want us to go after the person if we find out who did it?”

Rayne shook his head. “Just bring me the information. I’ll take it from there.”

There were rumors circulating that humans were forming some kind of vigilante group that went after other humans who were affiliated with vampires. If the rumors were true, Rayne wanted to put a stop to it.

Because if they were fixated on vampires, they just might come after humans associated with wolf shifters next. If anyone tried to hurt Felix, or the other mates in the house, Rayne would raze the city to find and kill every last person in that group.

Stone still couldn’t believe the estate had been set on fire. He’d come by earlier to get Sonny, so the guy could run his errands, and had seen the damage. He was certain it was the work of Slater’s group.

A group Slater had named Council of Darkness. Stone would have scoffed at such ridiculousness, but seeing the burned remains of the front entrance and beyond, he knew Slater needed to be stopped.

From what Stone had learned, the Ridgeway Riders—a biker gang now leaderless because Eleazar had killed both the leader and the leader’s brother—had joined forces with Slater. So had others, and to Stone’s alarm, the group already had at least fifty members.

Now Stone was back at the estate, walking past the human workers who were securing the front entrance and stepping inside.

It was Shayde who stopped him. “What are you doing here?”

A growl rumbled in Stone’s chest. Fuck. He hated the stench of vampires. “I need to talk to Eleazar. I have information he is going to want.”

“You can tell me and I’ll pass it along, mutt.”
