Mitch stepped closer. “I have something I need to ask you.”

“What do you want to ask me?” As Riley put Dylan down, he grabbed one of Mitch’s hands.

“Come on, Riley.” Vivian smiled. “We’re dying to open the bubbly, but it seems we’ll have to wait another few minutes.”

Annie took one of Riley’s arms. “We want to know everything,” she said with a wink in Mitch’s direction.

Craig and Aiden also stepped out onto the porch, Aunt Janice right behind them.

“What have we missed?” she wanted to know.

Vivian pointed toward Mitch. “Mitch wants to talk to Dylan.”

“Oh?” Craig said. “I think Aiden and I should also be a part of that conversation.”

Riley groaned. “Seriously, you two…”

Mitch took Dylan’s hand. “It’s okay, sweetheart, let’s all go in. This is a family affair, after all.”

Minutes later, they were all sitting around Annie’s kitchen table. Craig had opened a bottle of bubbly, and everyone had a glass in front of them. Dylan was sitting on Mitch’s knee, looking at everyone with big eyes, sipping on the grape juice Annie had poured him.

“So, Mitch,” Aiden said. “I believe you have something to say.”

Mitch grinned. “I wanted to talk to Dylan, but okay, since we’ve moved to Marietta, I’ve been getting used to sharing just about everything with everyone.” He turned to Dylan so that he faced the boy. “Dylan, I want to marry your mom. Would that be okay, do you think?”

Dylan stared at him for a few minutes. Mitch swore he could hear the wheels grinding in the little boy’s mind.

“We’ll have another wedding?”

Mitch nodded. “That’s right.”

“So you’ll be her husband?”

“I will be her husband.”

“She never wanted one before.”

Mitch grinned. “I changed her mind. Look, I’ve even given her a ring.”

Riley lifted her hand for Dylan to see.

It was quiet around the table as Dylan chewed on this piece of information.

“Will you have babies?”

Mitch’s eyes found Riley’s. He hadn’t gotten around to discussing the topic with Riley last night. He had no idea whether she’d want another baby.

Touching Mitch’s arm, Riley leaned forward. “How would you feel about that?” Riley asked Dylan.

He nodded, his eyes still on Mitch. “I’d like a little brother. When you have a baby, will you be their daddy?”

In that moment, Mitch finally understood what the little boy really wanted to know.

He nodded. “Yes, I’ll be their daddy. I could also be your dad. Do you think you would like that?”

His eyes widening, Dylan nodded.

Mitch pulled the little boy close and hugged him. “I’d be honored to be your dad.”
