Her head snapped toward him. “Not true—anymore.”

“Then tell me what do you want? Put yourself first. Be selfish, Stacey. Do you even have selfishness in you?” He challenged her.

What is he talking about? Her pulse sped.

“Stace. I don’t understand. We’ve talked for so many months before I could finally convince you to go out with me. We’ve gone out on two dates.” He pulled her face to look at him.

She caught his eyes, and her pulse skipped.

“The dates were amazing. We had a great time. You are amazing.”

He knows they weren’t dates. She furrowed her brow. “Those weren’t…”

He placed a finger on her lips. “They were dates. They were amazing dates.” He cupped her face in both his hands, keeping her from turning away.

She couldn’t ignore the electricity between them. It was like a shock going into her heart causing it to speed up. They were dates, and he was right. They were amazing. She wanted this. She wanted him. Why was it so hard when he was here? He wasn’t like the others. He was one of the good ones, but still…

“I want a relationship, Stacey, with you. I know you don’t do them. You’ve made that abundantly clear. But I want you to try. We might screw it up. But who cares. You’re worth it. Make us worth it.” His voice cracked.

“Tristan, I’m bad at relationships.” There was that smile. That crease in his cheek. Her heart pounded.

“I’m bad at feelings.” His eyes were smoldering. Her insides melted.

“Relationships never work.”

He dipped his head closer.

Her pulse raced.

“Just because relationships haven’t worked in the past, doesn’t mean ours will be that way.”

Who has he been talking to? “How do you know about my past relationships?” Her insides were so confused. Her past isn’t his business unless she wants it to be.

“You. It doesn’t take a PhD to know why a woman feels the way you do. That a guy treated you wrong. Unfortunately, too many guys are like my cousin. They treat a woman like they’re disposable, or they cheat. Not enough are like me.”

She shook her head. Her feelings were tearing her heart back and forth. “Love doesn’t last.”

“Love can last, but you have to give it a try.” He placed his hand on the back of her neck, pulling her a little closer.

If he keeps on, she’s going to need CPR. She swears her heart keeps stopping.

“Please give us a try.” His gaze pleaded with hers.

He was so close she could feel his breath on her face. Fear gripped her heart as her eyes searched his for an answer. Her breath caught in her throat. There was only one answer she could find. He is every bit as good as he seems. She closed the small space between their lips. As soon as their lips touched, a vibration filled her entire body. She grabbed his shirt and pulled herself closer, kissing him deeper. She ran one hand into his hair as her other traveled down his back. They kissed with a desperation and a need which had her moaning with pleasure.

She stood up and pulled him with her. “Stay with me tonight.”

He watched her. “Are you sure?” His hands traveled all over her, and he stared heavily into her eyes.

“Yes. I want you to.” A need filled her, and her pulse raced. “I want you.” She did. She wanted him badly and closed her lips on his again. The kiss was slow and warm. Her tongue caressed his in a sweet embrace. Finally, she broke away and pulled him behind her until they were in her room.

Stacey stood with her back against the closed door and watched him. His chest moved as rapidly as hers. She grabbed his hands, and he pulled her until she could feel his heart beat beneath her palm. She pulled on his shirt, brought it above his head, and tossed it on the floor.

Her hands touched his skin and her eyes traveled over his hard, sculpted pecs. Her thoughts were confirmed. His heart wasn’t the only thing amazing about this man. Her breath came faster. She placed a soft kiss on his six pack, his skin warm beneath her lips. Her hands felt his abs and traveled up his chest and over his erect nipples. He pulled in a quick breath. She leaned in and kissed him over his heart. A moan escaped him, and his heart thrashed beneath her lips. She traveled her lips across his chest and up his neck. He whispered her name.

Every time his breathing increased, or a moan escaped, or when he said her name, a tingling sensation filled her body, and her need to feel him grew.

When her lips caught his, she nipped and kissed them. Her tongue mingled with his. Her body pulsed with desire. Desire for this amazing man before her. He made her feel wanted and special. He made her feel…loved.
