“But you’ll have to,” Lily whispered. “How?”

“Yes, but I’m also a mother,” she said, standing and placing her hand on Lily’s cheek. “Your dad knows I have a life ahead of me, being your mom. Then a grandmother.”

Grandmother.

Lily’s eyes widened and her mom let out a soft laugh as they started walking back.

“When you have a child one day, you will understand. A love with a man is special, but so is creating a tiny little life. You are both important to me.”

Lily hugged her mom’s arm.

“But it was also terrifying,” her mom continued.

“Terrifying?”

“Oh yes. When you were born, you were so little, and I thought you were going to die every day for at least twenty years.”

Lily let out a small laugh.

“It drove your father crazy.” She smiled. “Choose a powerful man, Lily. They’re your rock. When your hormones are zooming around your body, he will ground you.”

Lily felt her cheeks warm.

When she went quiet, her mom slowed. “Have you met someone? Is that why you asked me about falling in love?”

Oh, shit.

“No, I just—”

“Is it Matt? Your boss?” her mom asked. “Are you in love with him?”

“Are you?” a dark voice from behind her asked.

Lily whipped around and came face to face with a six-foot-three wall of hotness.

Her mouth fell open.

God, he looked incredible. Dressed in a pair of dark jeans, a black shirt, and a black coat hanging over his arm, he looked every bit the billionaire she knew he was.

His hair was slightly mussed from the weather outside and his eyes were dark as they bore into her, waiting for an answer.

Lily was still taking in the fact that Aidan was standing here.

In Chicago.

Looking like something out of a magazine.

And presumably, he was here for her.

“Answer the question, Lily,” Aidan demanded.

“Oh, my,” her mom said.

Yes. Oh, my.
