CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Aidan walked up thesteps of the private jet and noddedmorningto Logan and Emma as he made his way down the back where Blake and Jacob were sitting at one of the tables.

The others were boarding behind him, their cars still pulling up. His parents had flown over early this morning on their own jet.

Amelia climbed out of her seat and curled up next to him. Her Gucci shoes squeaked on the white leather as she tucked them underneath her.

“You going to give me a name so I can have his balls removed, or do I need to torture it out of you?” he asked, stretching out his legs and wrapping an arm around her.

Then he kissed the top of her head.

“Just leave it. I’m only here for the hugs,” Amelia said into his shoulder.

Aidan frowned.

We’ll find him.Blake mouthed, and Aidan nodded.

One thing all the Dufort men had in common was their need to protect the women in their lives. Amelia hated it most days, but look at her now, snuggled into him. Truth was, he’d never seen her this upset. So whoever the guy was that had broken his sister’s heart, he was going to find out.

His eyes lifted when the flight attendant walked through the cabin and offered him a bottle of water.

“Thank you,” he said, taking it.

“Vodka,” Amelia said. “Gray Goose.”

“Meel’s, you can’t spend the weekend drunk,” Blake said, indicating to the flight attendant for another bottle and he slid it over the table that separated them all.

Aidan stopped it and positioned it in front of his sister.

“Drunk or crying. Those are the two choices,” she mumbled, but grabbed the water. “Anyway, I don’t care. I hate men.”

Jacob pressed his lips together to stop him from smiling.

“If you became a nun, it would make life much easier for Logan and Aidan,” Blake said. “It’s a sound plan.”

“Shut up,” Amelia said, but her lips twitched. Then she sat up, pulling her knees up to her chest and uncapping her bottle.

Aidan’s gaze drifted across the cabin and found Logan watching them. She’s fine, he mouthed, and his brother nodded and returned to his conversation with Emma.

Then dropped his eye back to his drink.

To keep from finding the one set that would remind him what a dick he’d been earlier.

Instead, he wondered what it felt like to be getting married. This was his brother’s second wedding, and he seemed much calmer.

Aidan couldn’t imagine committing his life to one person. Sure, it sounded all romantic and shit, but one person. Forever?

His father might want that for him, but unless he couldn’t live without someone—which sounded all kinds of dependent and unhealthy—he wouldn’t.

It wasn’t that he didn’t think he could love anyone that long, it was quite the opposite. His heart was already shared among a lot of people. People he would die for. People he would kill for.

Aidan was a lover, not a fighter, but last night watching Lily talk to her dad and the panic on her face. Well fuck, he’d wanted to fly her home and fix... fix all her problems.

And yes, he would happily kill Matt.

None of this made sense.

Maybe there was something about tropical islands and love affairs. They made you insane.
