What?

“I offered, but Lily took the dress with her,” Amelia said, rubbing his thigh affectionately under the table. “I liked her. She was nice.”

What?

Aidan glanced from face to face.

“Gone where?” Blake asked.

“Chicago,” Daniel said. “She flew out in the middle of the night on my jet.”

The fuck?

His father walked out and sat down with a platter of fruit.

Finally, his brain began to pick up speed, and he blinked, clearing away the fog of confusion.

Lily was gone.

Fucking gone.

“I’m sorry. Did you say Lily packed up and left in the middle of the night? And flew home in your jet? The one that was parked on Oahu. And she flew home to Chicago?” Aidan asked slowly.

Was that what his cousin was saying?

No.

No fucking way.

“Her father is dying, Aidan. Of course I did,” Daniel replied, as if he was completely unreasonable. “I wasn’t going to send her home in coach, for God’s sakes.”

Aidan pushed his chair back, and it grated against the outdoor tiles.

Amelia turned.

Lily is gone.

“Aidan,” his father began, but he ignored him and raced inside the house, looking for his phone. It was in his jeans lying on the floor. Powered off, and the battery was dead.

Mother fucker.

He plugged it in and waited a long minute for it to do its thing and finally turn on.

No messages.

“Fuck!” he cried, slamming his fist down on the bedside table and shit went flying. “Fuck, fuck, fuck.”

She hadn’t even said goodbye.

And he couldn’t leave.
