I put my phone in my jacket pocket and feel it buzz a minute later.‘Wait. You need it Sunday? For what?’
‘I’m hosting the Chamberlain Academy parade of apartment homes.’

Her answering text comes so fast that she must have voiced it.
‘Not tired anymore. Tell me everything.’

So I tell her.‘There’s a woman who works at the school, and we’ve been out a couple of times, and I really like her.’
‘A couple of times? Like two times, and this is the first I’ve heard of it?’
‘Our second date ended less than ten minutes ago.’
‘Was it magical?’
‘Electric.’
‘There were sparks?’
‘More like lightning. But literal, meteorological. Storm.’
‘Awww. Did you snuggle and keep her warm in the rain?’
‘I don’t think either of us will suffer long-term damage from the lightning strike, if that’s what you mean.’
She turns on all caps so I know she’s yelling.‘YOU MEAN ACTUAL, LITERAL LIGHTNING?’
‘Go back up and check. I told you.’
‘I thought you were being poetic. Are you okay? Is she? Wait—what’s her name?’
‘Her name is Sage Whitney, and she’s fine. A little shocked. Thank you for asking.’

‘Sage Whitney, Chamberlain’s award-winning violin player? You’re dating a student?’
‘Keep it down. I can hear the outraged screeching in your text. No. I am definitely not dating a student. Your online sources are out of date. Isn’t that the first rule of internet stalking?
