CHAPTER 44

Nikolai

Smirking, I lookedup at Lady Qing, “What? See a ghost?”

Was it a smart idea to poke at my captor? No, probably not, but I couldn’t help it. I regretted it though because she proceeded to jab me with a taser. “Blyat'!” I hissed under my breath as my muscles ached from the convulsions of the shock.

“You’re lucky I’m not tossing you into the cage.” Lady Qing seethed with a glare before kicking me off the stage with her heeled foot.

The hard landing knocked the wind out of me when I landed on my back with a pained grunt. I didn’t need to say anything to Lady Qing as I glared up at her. She won't get away with this, her days were numbered.

“Do you want him in holding or what do you want to do with him?” Lady Qing’s eyes were looking elsewhere, probably my buyer if I had to guess.

Twisting my body upright, I sat on my knees and looked out at the crowd with narrowed eyes, stopping on the man who replied to Lady Qing. “You know, he’s been giving me and my family a lot of grief, and I think it’s time he gets a taste of his own medicine.”

“You’re going to regret this later Liam.” I recognized the man who won the bid. He was a known politician who did business with the bratva, mainly smuggling drugs and stolen goods, but there was the occasional hit against his opponents when he ran for office. He got all he asked for, but he hadn’t been keen on keeping up with the payments. So, I’ve been sending some of my men to shake him down for what was owed.

“No, I’m not. The only person with regrets between us is going to be you for not leaving me be.” Of course he wouldn’t admit his own fault with our situation. “Not like it’ll matter now because you’re my bitch now.”

Chuckling amusingly, I shook my head at him, “That’s where you’re wrong because I am no one’s bitch. You think I give a shit that you won that stupid bid? You don’t control me, and you won’t. I am not going to listen to you and your stupid demands. If you think that buying me will let you control my bratva then you’ve got a rude awakening coming for you.”

At least he’ll be easy to kill once I get the opportunity. No way a vermin like him could keep me under his thumb, not in the slightest. If I don’t manage an escape then the others would bust me out sooner than later. I doubt it would come to any of that though unless I were to be removed from the premises somehow before the raid tonight happened.

“We’ll see if that’s still your tone with me once I have your wife under me.” That cocky grin of his rubbed me the wrong way with his words. “Cute little thing, maybe I’ll just keep her as my personal little nurse.”

Gritting my teeth, I swallowed the anger bubbling at my throat. “She’s not going to give into your demands.” I couldn’t help the scowl from forming on my face.

“She will when I have a gun to your head.” He seemed so damn sure of himself, and that really ground my gears the wrong way. Angel wouldn’t let anything bad happen to me, and we both knew if it came to such a situation then the risk wasn’t worth it. Angel would give into his demands if my life were on the line, and it would be the same vice versa.

Although, I held out on his threat because even if he did hold a gun to my head, I doubt he’d pull the trigger. If he wanted control of the bratva then he would have to keep me alive. It wouldn’t matter if I implemented him as the head of the bratva, no one would listen to him. The moment he kills me, everyone would turn on him. So, my life was of much importance. Surely Angel would be able to pick up on it and not give into any demands from the corrupted politician if push came to shove.

“Unless she doesn’t give a shit about you. I mean, she’s got options.” Okay, this fucker is going to have a bullet through his brain the moment I get my hands on a gun, after I’ve removed some limbs.

“Either way, I hope you have some people who can rough him up a bit, Lady Qing. It’d be nice for him to get a beating before I take him back. Maybe he’ll change his mind about listening to his new owner after getting a few bones broken.” Of course he would have others do his dirty work for him while he stood there with a cocky ass expression.

“You want him in the cage then?” Lady Qing asked, nodding at someone off the stage.

“Yes, and I don’t care who you send in with him, as long as they give him a good beating. As long as he’s still breathing, I don’t care how many bones they break.” Liam said with a sadistic grin.

Dropping my body weight, I struggled against the hands that grabbed at my arms and shoulders. Out of the corner of my eyes, I could see the vertical metal bars of a cage rise up from the ground, surrounding the stage I was kicked off of earlier.

It took four guys, but they managed to throw me—literally—into the cage. Not a moment after landing with a grunt, the cage door slammed, and I found myself being surrounded by five men.

A sharp breath and cough was sucked out of me from the abrupt kick to my stomach. Then another kick connected with my face, throwing my head to the side.

This is such bullshit!

This fight wasn’t fair one bit. Five men against me while I stayed in shackles. Utter and complete bullshit.

Gritting my teeth, I kicked at the man who stood by my feet, buckling his knees. Actually, I think I might have broken something because his leg was bent at a very awkward angle after my feet connected with him.

Bang!

The gunshot sent the whole place into a frozen silence. Then, the cage rattled violently followed by a grunt.
