“Shut up! Just shut up!” Tony screamed, kicking at Stanley with his bloody foot. “Don’t tell them jack shit!”

“I’m not having my toes blown off one by one over a span of ten minutes by the crazy bratva bride!” Stanley thrashed wildly, tucking his legs up under him to hide his feet from me. “I’ll tell you what you want to know! Just don’t shoot my toes!”

With a hardened face, he turned his attention to the bound men. “Talk, or my wife shooting your precious toes will be the least of your worries.” Nikolai had a threatening aura to him as he shed his jacket and pushed his sleeves up past his forearms.

Stanley quickly squealed despite his partner’s protests. Protests that were muffled by a ball gag, courtesy of Lev after he dug through the drawer. It would have been a wad of paper, but I guess Lev found more equipment while pulling out scrap pieces of paper to ball up. “He paid us a lot of money to break into your office and steal the locations of all your warehouses, safe houses, business, just every location tied to your name. He wanted bank accounts too, but we couldn’t get into your computer!”

“Who? Who is he? Who paid you? Who hired you? And why?” Nikolai pressed as he stalked up to the shrinking Stanley.

“The one you sent us to protect, the warehouses at Gorth Bay. He paid us triple to work for him. He didn’t tell us why he wanted the documents, just told us what to steal. That’s all I know, I swear!” Stanley stammered nervously, pressing himself further into the couch as if he could just sink into the cushions and disappear.

With a clenched fist, Nikolai punched Stanley in the face, breaking his nose with a crack. “Ivan. He dares to steal my own men from me? Damnublyudokis going to regret ever crossing paths with me.” Nikolai seethed with anger, the silent kind that meant a storm was coming. Grabbing the bleeding man by the collar of his shirt, Nikolai lifted him up to his face, “What does he do around his warehouses? His ports?”

“H-he stores his goods there along with that one crazy Asian lady, your wife’s mother, he stores her goods there too, mainly counterfeit goods, drugs, and warm bodies.” Stanley’s pathetic whimpers were starting to get annoying the more Nikolai glowered at him.

“Stepmother, but what do you mean warm bodies?” I questioned with my own glare as I pointed the gun at him as a reminder that I was still a threat as well.

“Girls, kids, men, women. They come from shipments overseas and from the Asian lady’s previous warehouses. She was talking to Ivan about how a pest was messing up her trade which is why she moved the humans to Ivan’s warehouses. I don’t know what their deal is, but Ivan gives the lady some of his girls to sell too. We take them to this location in the desert every now and then.” Stanley answered my question quickly and nervously.

Damn. The doctor was right then. Hell, it’s worse than what the doctor told us. Although, I’m sure he wasn’t privy to how they obtained the humans.

Fuck.

Disarming the gun, I set it on the table before getting up. “I need to get in touch with the others and let them know about this. I don’t need anything else from these two rats.” The adrenaline was already dying down, and the scent of iron started to make my empty stomach feel rather queasy.

I was done here.

Nikolai could handle the rest just fine on his own. Besides, they were his men, so I didn’t want to overstep much into his business.

“Lisichka, are you okay? You don’t look well.” The concern etched in Nikolai’s charming eyes made it hard to deny even though his face remained stoic.

“Yeah. I wasn’t hurt or anything, really. I think I’m just still tired from last night, plus I haven’t eaten anything. I’ll be okay, promise.” I did feel like crap now since my adrenaline rush died down. Stress on an empty stomach wasn’t a good thing, but I could easily fix one of those two problems quickly.

“Lev, go with Angel and make sure she stays safe until the whole place is swept and secured and our men are sifted through.” I thought about arguing with Nikolai, but the way his eyes hardened at me made me shove those words into the trash.

I hated being treated like this, but I knew it was one of those things where it was better safe than sorry. Nikolai knew fully well I was just as capable as him, but he’s also made it abundantly clear on many occasions how he would never put my safety and wellbeing at risk because of how precious I was to him. It was sweet he cared for me deeply like that, even if it annoyed me at times.

Much to my surprise, Lev didn’t argue like I had expected him too because no one wants to be stuck on babysitting duty. But one glance at the look Nikolai gave his brother was enough to send shivers down my spine. It was a look that meant business and to not question his words, otherwise there would be consequences. To say it was his serious look would be a grossly inaccurate description because it was beyond serious.

The moment the door shut, I let out a breath I didn’t even know I held. I hadn’t realized how stuffy the room was until I was clear of it. The breath of fresh air dizzied my vision for a split second. “Let’s go to the kitchen. I think I might pass out if I don’t get food in me right now.” I forced out a weak chuckle as I lifted my heavy feet down the hallway towards the stairs with Lev.

When we got to the stairs, I had to stop when I felt my vision drop. The stairs I had gone up and down a thousand times by now seemed like they’d doubled in size. “Are you sure you’re okay?” I didn’t need to look at Lev to know he was concerned from how he sounded.

“Y-yeah, I just...” Shit, was I that famished? The area started to spin the longer I stood.

Then, I felt myself hit something solid and flat. “Hey, I got you.” When did I start to fall? My vision went out of whack, and I found myself leaning over Lev’s back when I refocused. “Don’t pass out on me now, otherwise Kolya will have my head.” Lev joked with a chuckle as he started to move down the stairs with me on his back.

“Think I still have some leftover sushi bake that can be heated up.” Like hell would I cook something in this state. Plus, I don’t think I could wait for the chef to whip something up if I requested something. I needed to get food in me a lot sooner than later. “Should be enough for you too if you want some.”

“Let’s get you fed first then you can worry about me.” Lev’s body shook with his chuckle, making me giggle a little because it felt a little ticklish. “On a different note. Why the fuck is there a ball gag in Nikolai’s drawer?”

Unable to help it, I let out a small laugh. “What do you think Lev? I doubt your mind is a virgin.” I’d run to a convent and lock myself in it if Lev was a damn virgin in any sense.

Lev groaned in response as he set me down on the island stool. Whether the groan was one of disgust or regret was undiscernible to me. “Never mind, forget I asked. I can’t get the images out of my mind now.” Definitely a regretful groan.

Snickering, I propped my elbow up and leaned my chin into my hand. “What? The images of Nikolai tied up?” Now I was just being evil, but I lived for the chaos.

“Iisus chertov Khristos, I didnotneed that image in my mind. God, I don’t think I can look at him after this without those images.” Lev groaned, rubbing a hand through his face and glaring at me out of the corner of his eyes.
