I ignored him.

“You didn’t get it. Here, let me.” He scooted closer.

“Don’t touch me, you wanker.”

Before I could duck out of the way, he smeared a handful of dripping mud over my head, sending it cascading down my face. Both Jett and Jordan laughed, but Jordan’s was abruptly cut off when I lunged for him, taking him down again. This bastard was going to pay for that. I straddled him, shaking the mud from my face and hair, sending it splattering all over his face.

“Fine! You win!” Jordan spat mud from his mouth. His words were music to my ears, but I hadn’t finished teaching him a lesson yet.

Except, it seemed that Callum had other ideas. He tugged me away from Jordan’s prone body. “Enough, you two! Are you not teammates? What is going on?”

Jordan smirked, clearly happy that I was in trouble as well as him. Whoever this Callum guy was, he had an air of authority about him, and that probably meant that he was one of the people in charge around here.

“Why are you both here? Why are you so angry? Why are you fighting in the jungle during a dangerous storm? I don’t need those answers. I just want you to think about them and maybe ask yourself later. See if you can let the people here help you.” He shot Jett a warning look. “That goes for you, too, Mr. Roman.”

Jett rolled his eyes. “I don’tneedhelp,Mr. Ryan.”

“Exactly, mate! Neither do we,” Jordan added. He really needed to learn when to keep his mouth shut.

Callum acted as if neither of them had spoken. “Now, as I said earlier, continue on your way, boys. The waterfall is straight down this path. Follow the arrow, and don’t veer off again.”

Jordan rolled his eyes as he clambered to his feet, picking up his pack. I did the same, turning in the direction Callum had indicated. “Fucking activities police, I’m positive,” my asshole teammate muttered before raising his voice. “Catch you later, Jett!”

“Made a new best friend, did you?”

“Nah, you’re still my bestie. Best bros for life.” He nudged me with his elbow, and I glared at him. “Can you believe we just got to meet Jett Roman? Shit, I should’ve got a selfie with him.”

I ignored him. I was tired. My entire body ached after our race through the jungle and subsequent fight. All I wanted to do was get to the waterfall, wash this mud from my body, and then go back to the villa.

Thankfully, Callum had been right. We turned a corner, and the waterfall was there, cascading down a rocky face into a pool surrounded by greenery.

Jordan threw his pack to the ground and dived for the pool without even checking to see if it was safe.

Something inside me snapped. I threw my own pack down, uncaring where it landed, and entered the pool, swimming over to him in three long strokes. Pushing down, my feet found the bottom of the pool, and I launched myself into a standing position. “You fucking idiot! You could’ve got yourself killed!”

“That would make your life easier, wouldn’t it?” His eyes flashed with fire. “You’d probably throw a party.”

“I don’t want you to fuckingdie!” I gripped him around the back of his neck, jerking him forwards into me. “Where’s your sense of self-preservation?”

“I—I don’t…I—”

I. Was. So. Fucking. Tired of his shit.

“Jordan.”

“Y—yeah?” We were pressed together, and I could feel him tremble. Our faces were so close, and his breath was warm on my chilled lips. His eyes were wide and dark, a question in them that I didn’t have the answer for.

I angled my head forwards, and my heart stuttered when soft lips brushed against mine. “For once in your life, do what you’re told, and shut the fuck up.”

“Okay,” he breathed.

I kissed the word from his mouth.

JORDAN

My heart was pounding so hard, a drumbeat in my ears that almost drowned out the roar of the waterfall. I was sure it could be heard all across the island. Theo’s hand was in my hair, holding my head in place as his mouth moved against mine. He tasted of rain and mud and salt, and even though I could’ve done without the mud part, I made no attempt to break the kiss.
