“Huh?” I couldn’t pull my gaze away from the spot. “Did something happen after I left?” My mind filled with the possibilities—most of them including my ex-boyfriend ending up in a body bag.

“Everything is fine, just pack your bags. It’s obviously not safe for you to be here, and you were leaving anyway, remember?”

“Is Alex okay?” I asked, my mind going back to Vinny’s advice as I headed toward my suitcases stacked in the corner of the room.

“Who?”

“Alex, my ex-boyfriend. You know, the one that Viper got in a fight with.” I narrowed my eyes, picking up the biggest bag and tossing it onto the bed.

“Oh, he’s fine.”

“Is he?”

“You’re full of questions tonight.”

“You’re covered in blood.”

He rolled his eyes. “Your ex-boyfriend is alive and well—well, I think, anyway. He might have a broken nose, but based on that guy’s mouth, I’d guess it’s not his first one.”

I sighed, nodding. “He gets into fights.”

“Must be your type then.”

Shaking my head, I went for the dresser, pulling out my clothes and filling the bag. “I don’t think so, but seriously, what’s on your shirt?”

“It’s blood. Tell me, what happened with the guy outside your hotel room?”

“I don’t know,” I carefully said. “Was it you?”

“What? No.” Gunner was sounding more and more irritated with every word that came out of his mouth. “I wish you’d just pack your shit and tell me what the hell happened to you, so we can get out of here. I need to get back to the clubhouse.”

“Why?”

“Stop asking questions.”

“I’m a journalist.”

“After you left, something happened, but I’m not discussing it here. Just tell me what happened with you.”

“I don’t know, some guy in a hoodie was trying to get into my hotel room. He knew I was here—and my name.” A shudder rolled down my spine as I thought about it, replaying the details. “He must’ve known me.”

“No vest? Like the Silent Kings with that weird skull with a crown?” Gunner’s brows were furrowed as he watched me load my suitcases, standing with his arms folded across his chest.

“No, just a solid black hoodie. He had the hood up, too.”

“You said he knew your name?”

“Yeah.” I grabbed the second bag from the floor, tossing it onto the bed. “I didn’t recognize his voice, but it sounded familiar.”

He nodded, blowing out a sharp breath. “I don’t know. This night hasn’t exactly gone the way I thought it would.”

“Obviously,” I motioned to the stain on his shirt. “I take it that’s not your blood.” I tossed the last pair of shoes into my bag before slipping past him to grab my things from the bathroom.

“It’s not mine, no.” Gunner followed me to the bathroom, somewhat annoying me as he stood there.

“Why don’t you help me?” I held out my toiletries bag, eyeing it.

“I don’t want to get blood on your shit.” He held out his hands, which were stained a light shade of red. “I think it’s probably best that you just pack your own stuff.”
