Nodding slowly, I clutched my bag, going back to filling my arms with my stuff. “You’re not going to kill me, right?”

Gunner laughed, and thankfully, it wasnotthe same sickening laughter that I’d heard before. “I definitely didnotkill anyone. If anything, it was the opposite. I was trying to keep him alive.”

My heart dropped. “Who?”

“Just pack your things.” Gunner’s voice lost all humor, dropping in volume. “I’m not going to discuss anything with you right now.”

“It’s Viper, isn’t it?” My mouth felt dry as I choked out the words, pausing just in front of him, my hands full.

Gunner didn’t utter a word, but his eyes answered the question.

A lump grew in my throat.

What did Alex do?

I hurried to the bag on the bed, throwing my stuff into it, the clanking of bottle filling the silence in the room. Quickly, I scanned the room, doublechecking that I had gotten everything I needed. My fingers trembled as I grabbed the zipper, quickly closing the suitcases.

“It wasn’t your ex-boyfriend,” Gunner said quietly as I slung my purse over my shoulder, my head feeling light. “It was just something...random.”

Like someone beating on my door.

“We just need to get you out of the hotel. I don’t think they have your best interest at heart.” Gunner reached for the handle on one of my bags. “I don’t think it’ll stain your bag,” he added, and I realized my eyes were glued to his dirty hands.

That’s Viper’s blood.

A lot of Viper’s blood.

Chapter 14

Viper

“You’ll get your feeling back,” Dr. Bowers said, pulling his surgical gloves from his hands. “But seriously, Viper. This could’ve been really bad.”

“Good thing it wasn’t,” I shot back at him, wincing as the pain radiated from my shoulder as I moved the fingers on my injured arm. Thankfully, once the bullet had been removed, my feeling began to come back. “Thanks.”

“This isn’t going to be slid under the rug,” Dr. Bowers eyed Bear and Tippy, who were standing there beside me. “I drove by the scene. There’s bloodeverywhere, and I doubt everyone is going to stay quiet about it. That stabbing wasn’t that long ago, and I know a shooting right off Main Street involving bikers is going to make the news.”

“They’ll get over it,” Tippy retorted. “This is just part of our life. You know that, and you choose to do us favors.”

“This has nothing to do with my favors. I’m just simply saying that the club needs to keep their wars off Main Street.”

“We know, doc,” I interjected, shooting a glare up at the president. “No one wants to start shit on the town streets.”

He nodded down at me, patting my uninjured shoulder before he started cleaning up his stuff. “Always good to see you, Ronny. Hate that it’s always under these kinds of circumstances, though. Maybe try not getting shot next time.”

“Yeah, yeah,” I laughed, taking the zip lock baggy with the slug in it. I squinted at it, grimacing at the sight. The sound of the door opening caught my attention, and much to my relief, in stormed Gunner and Hannah.

“I swear, don’t ever fucking send me to retrieve your woman again. Trying to keep up with her driving is like chasing a racecar.”

I smiled, though it faded as I saw the color drain from Hannah’s face, her blue eyes going wide as she stared at my soaking bandages. “It’s just a flesh wound.”

Dr. Brewer chuckled at my cheeky response, shaking his head as he ducked out of the clubhouse, giving Hannah a nod on the way out. “You must be Hannah.”

“Yeah...” her voice trailed off, her brows furrowed as he disappeared without saying anything more to her. She looked back at me, eyeing everyone else around me wearily. “What happened to you?”

“I think you should tell him what happened toyou,” Gunner spoke up, giving her a look that caused my stomach to drop.

“Give us some privacy,” I said to Bear and Tippy, who were standing around the bar, where I had been propped up on the couch not far away.
