“Sure,” Bear gave me a nod, slapping Tippy’s shoulder and guiding him out onto the porch. “If you need us, just send the prospect after us.”

My gaze followed them, waiting for the door to shut securely behind them before I turned to Hannah and Gunner, both with the same look on their face. “What happened?”

“Well, for starters, she got me tackled by security.” Gunner shot Hannah an amused look, and I swear the two of them acted just like siblings, Hannah shooting back an equally sinister expression.

“Okay, sowhydid you call security on Gunner?”

Hannah whipped her head back to me. “How about we start with what happened to you?”

I shook my head. “Just tell me what the hell happened, Hannah.”

“It’s nothing compared tothat.” She took a step toward me, her eyes focused on the gauze. “Like, it’s bleedingsomuch.”

“Yeah, and that’s why we called a doctor.”

“And I mean, he’s conscious now, so that’s a plus,” Gunner added, a smile stretching across his face. “I damn near had to drag him in here earlier.”

Pure horror filled Hannah’s eyes. “Oh, mygod. Was it Alex?”

“Your little boyfriend doesn’t have the balls to shoot anyone,” I laughed, tilting my head back and resting it against the arm of the couch. “But that would’ve been a much better situation. I might’ve even let the cops come and arrest him for that.”

“I told you it had nothing to do with your ex-boyfriend.” Gunner shook his head. “I swear, she doesn’t believe a word I say to her.”

“Anyway,” Hannah cut him off in a way that made me smile. “Some random man just came and banged on the hotel room, trying to get me to open the door. I called security, but by the time they got there, he was gone—and Gunner was there instead.”

I pondered what she was saying for a moment, trying to put the timeline together in my mind. I turned to Gunner. “And you didn’t see anyone?”

He shook his head. “No, I didn’t. The hallway was clear when I got to her floor. And he must’ve had to take the stairs, because otherwise, I would’ve passed him.”

“Right,” I grunted, my stomach tightening. “I wonder...”

“If it was the same people?” Gunner finished my thought as my eyes dropped to the wound on my shoulder. “That seems like it might be a stretch...”

Not really.

“You’re staying here at the clubhouse from now on, you know that, right?” I looked up at Hannah, who still appeared to be ghastly white. “If you’re gonna vomit, try to make it to the bathroom.”

“This is just so...crazy.” Her voice sounded distant, her eyes finally lifting to meet mine. “I think I should probably call Vinny and tell him that it’s time for me to go home. He said that he was coming next week and that I could leave then, but this... I feel like this is an emergency.”

“Yeah, for you tostay. I don’t know who did this to me,orwho came after you. There’s no way that you’ll be safe leaving town.”

“Whoever it is keeping a close eye on you, Hannah,” Gunner added, letting out a heavy sigh. “I get what you’re saying, but I think that Viper is right.”

“No,” she folded her arms across her chest.

My shoulders slouched, pain searing through my chest. “You’renevercompliant, are you? I’m trying to look out for your best interest, Hannah. If you take off and head home, there’s no guaranteed protection—and if you seriously think that this shit isn’t going to follow you back, you’re wrong.”

“You’re just saying that because you want me to hang around,” she shot back at me, her eyes going cold with challenge. “I swear, justsayit.”

“What I can say,” a voice called out from behind us as Tippy entered into the clubhouse, “Is that more than likely it was the Silent Kings trying to scare her. I don’t think it’s going to be connected to whatever the hell happened to you, Viper.”

“You don’t know that,” I shot back at him, not surprised that he decided to listen in on the conversation. “There’s no way to know that.”

“Well, I think it’s safe to say that Hannah rubbed those boys the wrong way, and they followed her back to the hotel—or attempted to. I’m sure Nitro is just pissed because he didn’t get his way with her. I don’t think it’s an immediate threat. If she wants to leave, let her leave.”

My chest burned with frustration. Ofcourse, he would say that. He just wanted her to leave so he didn’t have to deal with Vinny.

“See,” Hannah motioned to Tippy as he joined us, smoking a cigarette beside her. “It’s justyoutrying to get me to stay.”
