There was always a fucking party.

And I was rarely in the mood.

“Whatdoyou want out of life?” Hannah’s voice was distant as I nearly dozed off. “You know, like with all this?”

“I don’t know. I started building custom bikes with a couple guys from the club, and we’ve won some shows, but right now I got other shit to work out.”

Like Charlie Hughes.

Ohshit.

I perked up, my eyes fluttering open. “I actually need you to help me.”

She looked surprised—and then suspicious. “With what?”

“I need you to be my date to a party next week. Well, it’skind ofa party.”

“Like a biker party?”

“No, well, sort of.” I hesitated, not wanting to scare the shit out of her before we ever even made it there. “Think more like Hollywood.”

Like Beverly Hills to be specific.

“Andyouare going to it?” She burst into laughter, falling back on the bed beside me. “I did not see that coming.”

“You have no idea what’s coming.”

And neither do I.

I pulled her into my arms, secretly finding some solace in the way her body melted into mine—even if it did leave a searing pain through my shoulder and arm. She let out a sigh as she snuggled against me. My mind flew to the still unreconciled missed drop. I hadn’t been able to get in contact with Charlie, but I had been sent the invite to the party through an unknown number hitting my phone...

Which meant he knew that I had been calling.

He just hadn’t been ready to answer.

Chapter 17

Hannah

I blinked, my eyes adjusting to the darkness of Viper’s room, and it took me a moment to realizewhyI had woken up.

But then I heard it.

Someone’s footsteps were treading across the wood floors of the bedroom. My heart skipped a beat as I carefully rolled onto my side toward the noise. However, the light spilling into the room put the fear to rest. Viper was slipping out into the dimly lit hallway, leaving me in the room alone. The clubhouse had gone quiet, and I reached for my phone, seeing that it was fifteen after three.

Where is he going?

The investigative journalist in me was curious, and I figured most of the members were drunkenly passed out or sleeping.

So I slid out from under the covers.

My bare feet hit the cool floors, and I used the flashlight on my phone to shuffle through my suitcase, digging out a pair of loose jeans. I pulled them on and slid on my vans, creeping toward the doorway. It felt like I was breaking the rules…

But no one had told me to stay in the room.

I slipped my phone into my pocket and turned the doorknob, cracking it slightly to peer out into the hallway. It was empty and silent. I opened the door the rest of the way and stepped out, shutting the door softly behind me. I glanced both ways, knowing if I went to the right, it would take me back to the main lounge area...

But I had no idea what was to the left.
