“And you didn’t recognize them?”

She shook her head. “Again, one of their voices sounded familiar—”

“Like the guy that was outside of your hotel room?” I cut her off, my heart jumping a few beats. There was no way I was being slammed by my own club...

Right?

“I don’t know. Maybe that’s why it sounded familiar—but at the same time, it sounded familiar then, too. I know what this sounds like, but I know what I heard. They mentioned Gunner, too, and keeping an eye on you.”

“And they mentioned me specifically?”

Her brows furrowed. “Well, no, but it was so obvious that it was the shooting that happened today. They were talking about a car that was borrowed from Los Angeles, and that they were certain you’d recognize it. There were two guys—and one of them said to give him a few days to think more about it.”

This can’t be true.

It can’t be.

“Viper,pleaselisten to me.”

I looked up from my hands, meeting her eyes. They were startling, filled with the fear that I had seen briefly in the lounge. Whether it was actually the truth or not...

It was clear that Hannah believed it.

“Did you see their faces?”

She let out a heavy sigh. “I didn’t. I just know that it wasn’t any of the people we just saw—or Gunner. Well, I don’t actually know. I just know it wasn’t Gunner.”

“Okay. Thanks for the information.”

Her eyes widened. “Are you not going to talk to anyone? Figure it out? Get extra security?”

“Nah.” I laid back on the pillow.

Because I have no idea what to fucking do.

Chapter 19

Hannah

“Fucking seriously?” Gunner groaned, standing outside of the clubhouse. “Why can’t someone else babysit her?”

“You’ve proven that you can handle the task,” Viper chuckled, swinging a leg over his bike as I stood beside Gunner. “I have shit to do this afternoon.”

Gunner wasn’t letting up. “But I don’t want to have to go and sit while she has girl time withLouise.”

I could see the discomfort on Viper’s face. “Just fucking go, prospect. You might be one of my best friends, but you’re still the prospect, and I’m the VP.”

“Dude...”

“Itrustyou.” Viper avoided my gaze as he said the words. Ever since we talked about what I had heard in the garage, he had been more distant. I wasn’t totally sure that he believed anything that I said...

But those words made me rethink that.

Gunner gave him a weird look but nodded. “Fine, but I have shit to do, so this meeting can’t last longer than just like an hour.”

“It’ll last however long she wants it to.” Viper shot him a glare before starting his motorcycle and ripping out of the parking lot.

“I wish he wasn’t going alone.” My heart squeezed with worry as he tore out of the clubhouse parking lot. I peered around, half expecting someone to jump out and follow him.
