“Where was he going?” Will gestured toward the gates, where Gunner had just roared through.

“I don’t know. He said that he has errands to run,” I said, suddenly feeling suspicious about Will’s curiosity. Granted, Will was just that kind of guy—and maybe I was being overcautious.

But what if I’m not?

“You okay, man?” his tone shifted suddenly, looking more concerned than curious. “You look like you might pass out. Did you drink too much last night?”

I shrugged. “Yeah, that might be it. It’s easy to get carried away.”

“Yeah, I guess. You must’ve really hit it hard.”

I studied his chiseled face, emotionless for the most part. Will was an interesting guy, fresh out of the military when he joined the club. I was pretty sure that the guy had a hell of a past—but he never offered it up. “It happens.”

“Maybe you should drink some water.”

“Yeah.” Just as the word left my mouth, my phone vibrated in my pocket and I pulled it out, not recognizing the number the message was from. I glanced up at Will, who still had a strange look on his face, and opened the message.

183 County Road

“What?” I muttered under my breath at the address. I didn’t know the specific spot, but I knew it was in the middle of nowhere based on my knowledge of the town—and it wasnotnear the town. I quickly typed back a text.

Who is this?

“Everything okay?” Will repeated himself for the hundredth time, but my eyes were glued to the screen.

See you there in an hour.

“Everything’s fine,” I said, putting the phone in my pocket. “I guess Gunner just needs some help on those errands.”

Chapter 23

Hannah

The sound of a second motorcycle engine starting caught my attention as I sat there with Ginger and Sarah. And the moment I heard the engine sputter and spit, I knewexactlywho it was. I jumped to my feet and headed toward the door.

“There ain’t no reason to go chasing him every time he leaves,” Ginger called after me, a laugh following.

There is when there’s a hit on his head.

“Oh, let her be,” Sarah said to her. “She’s just in that new honeymoon phase. It’ll wear off with a little time.”

I pretended like I didn’t hear either of them, ripping open the door and picking up my pace as I saw Viper backing out on his bike. “Wait!” I shouted, waving my arms like an idiot as I raced across the parking lot to where he was. Men’s laughter spilled out from the garage, but I ignored it.

“What thefuckare you doing?” Viper snapped as my hands landed on the handlebars, catching him by surprise. “What do you need?”

“Where are you going?” I demanded, white-knuckling the metal. “You shouldn’t goanywherealone.”

“Jesus, who are you? My mom?” Viper shook his head, continuing to back out of the spot, dragging my white Vans across the gravel. “Let go, Hannah.”

“What’re you gonna do? Run over me?”

He looked completely unenthused. “I might.”

“You won’t. You’d miss me too much.”

He actually cracked a smile for a brief moment before it slipped away. “I don’t want you to go, Hannah.”

“You shouldn’t be going anywhere alone,” I couldn’t hide the worry from my voice, and his eyes surprisingly softened.
