Yeah, tomorrow she wouldn’t even let him sleep in here with her.

Tomorrow.

Chapter Twenty-Six

Jasper

Jasperthrewopenthe double doors wide, walking the familiar halls in the direction of the trainer’s clinic. He’dspent more time here than he’d spent anywhere else. The coach’s offices for game strategy and pack discussions. The weight roomandthe locker rooms. Hell, he’d snuck dozens of girls into the showers after games. All the public school chicks wanted to see the inside of their hallowed private halls. It’d been as easy as taking candy from a baby.Eww. Wait. He was going to have a baby. What if it wasn’t a boy? Whatif he had an innocent, perfect daughter?Would some disgusting fuck-boy try to talk her into the shower?

“Hey, what are you doing here?” Maddi wrinkled her nose, hands on her hip. “You aren’t meeting some poor girl up here, are you?” She glanced behind him. “I thought Dom told you not to do that anymore.”

He was, in fact, meeting some poor girl here. The beautiful, innocent angel he’d knocked up. He wanted to tell Maddi and Linc together though. “I came to see you, Nurse Maddi. Wannacup my balls?”

She popped him upside the head but laughed at his joke anyway. “We’re done for the day, but come to the house. Linc is in charge of dinner while I’m working the clinic, so it should be interesting and most likely inedible.” She threw her arm around his shoulders and steered him to the door.

“Do we need to wait for Callie? Or did she already head out?” He hoped like hell he didn’t sound overly interested. He was though. Was Maddi really about to leave his pregnant, uh,friendhere by herself? In an empty school where horny assholes have been fantasizing about her all day with their shorts around their ankles?

His wolf didn’t like that, and honestly, neither did he.

“I told her I’d wait for her by the door. I think she’s puking.” Maddi winced, shivering like the thought was enough to make her sick as well. “I made a mistake and ordered pizza for lunch.”

“She can’t smell pizza, let alone eat it. That goes for melted cheese at all, really. She needs crackers.I know where they are.” Jasper took a few steps toward the nearest vending machine before he realized what he’d done. He paused, spinning back around to face Maddi. Her eyes were narrowed, her lips between her teeth. “It’swhat I heard from Blake, and through the thin bathroom walls at Jace’s houses.”

“You sperm-filled little bastard.” She let out a deep sigh, her shoulders hunching and her head hanging down. “Of course you knocked up the Sunday school teacher.”

Jasper nodded, wincing. “We were going to tell you at dinner tonight.”

“You told her?” Callie spoke softly behind him. Hervoicetimid, like she was nervous.

He reached for her hand, guiding her to stand beside him. He squeezed, reassuring her he was here and everything was going to be fine. “I sort of started to lecture her about your melted cheese aversion, and she guessed. She called me a sperm-filled bastard.”

“You are.” Callie cut her gaze to him briefly before focusing on Maddi. “I’m sorry we lied. It’smy fault.Jasper wanted to give me time to figure things out.”

“It’s not your fault.” Jasper shook her hand, whichhe was still clutching for some reason. “We weren’t ready for everyone to know. Nowwe are, so we’re here, telling you.” He swung her around to face him. “You don’t need to apologize to anyone for anything. Do you understand?” His pack weren’t her parents. They wouldn’t demand obedience and groveling. He waited for her to nod, then he glanced behind her to Maddi. “We still invited for dinner?”

“Of course.” Maddi held her arms out, her bottom lip in a pout. “Get over here, you crazy kids.” Jasper pulled Callie with him and let Maddi wrap them into a big, comforting hug. “We’re here for whatever you need, okay?”

Jasper smiled, hugging her back.

She’d proved his expectations were right on point. They were going to be supportive. Sure, they might be snarky and slightly worried, but supportivenonetheless.

The three of them walked across campus, Jasper pointing out buildings and sharing funny stories with Callahan about his misspent youth. He told her about the timefreshman yearhe convinced Riley to fill the fountain with dish soap, and how Linc caught them. He’d laughed, taken a video, and then turned them over to Dom for punishment. It was nice to have memories here, anecdotes he could share with her that had nothing to do with the number of, uh, notches in his proverbial bedpost.

“Hey, fuck nut, glad you’re here. I made meat loaf.” Linc handed him a beer as soon as he stepped into their house. “I’ve never made meatloaf before, but I think I nailed it.” The smell floating through the house and wrinkling Maddi’s nose told them thatLinc, in fact, hadnotnailedit. “We were out of tomato paste, so I doubled the ketchup. Took a whole bottle, but it looks good to me.”

Jasper scooped Allison up off the floor, beating Maddi to snag the first snuggles. He breathed in the sweet scent of her baby shampoo and tickled her tummy so he could hear her tinkling laughter. He loved this kid, and he was good with her. He knew he could handle a baby of his own, and he was beyond appreciative that Maddi and Linc had let him be so hands-on with his cosmic little sister.

He handed her off to her mother with a smirk when she started tapping her foot in annoyance. “Linc?” Jasper headed back into the kitchen, following Linc and the stench of dinner.

“Grab some plates, will ya?” Linc was setting glass dishes crusted with burnt offerings in the center of the dining room table. In addition to the meatloaf, he appeared to have tried his hand at mashed potatoes and maybe, uh, maybe those were green beans? They were floating in some buttery milky substance.

Jasper took four plates out of the cabinet, setting the table while Maddi and Callahandriftedin. He could tell that Callie was trying to breathe through her mouth. He chuckled as he crossed the room and opened a couple windows to help air out the smell. He sat next to her, leaning over to whisper in her ear, “Don’t eat anything. We’llgo into town on the way home and pick up dinner.”

She nodded, reaching for her water and taking a big gulp.

Maddi got Allison set up in her highchair, pulling a box of Cheerios from the pantry and sprinkling some on her tray. Linc frowned. “I made dinner, why are you giving her cereal?”

“I don’t want to clean up toddler puke.”
