He took his time, staying in human form for the descent. He needed the extratimeto organize his thoughts. He didn’t want another stupidly blurted marriage declarationto mess things up worse.

When he entered through the back gate, he foundCalliesitting on the patio, one of his sweatshirts wrapped around her shoulders. She smiled, glancing behind her at the pile of bodies in the living room. “I don’t want to wake them.”

He nodded, coming to sit beside her. “I didn’t want to wake the guys either.”

“Molly said you would hear me when I called you.”

He smiled, his lips against her shoulder. “Molly believes in all the best parts of our magic, of the bond between mates.”

“Is that what we are? Mates?”

He sighed, moving to kneel before her. “I wanted you from the first moment you blew me off. I can see now it was my wolf, excited for the chase. When you agreed to give me one night, I couldn’t get enough of you. I couldn’t bring myself to leave your body.I couldn’t bring myself to send you home. I watched you as you slept, more than once.”

She narrowed her pretty eyes. “This all sounds very suspect. Youknow that, right?”

“Oh, I’m aware. Me, my wolf, we’ve become rather obsessed with you.” He smiled, trying to reassure her everything wasall right. “When Riley told me you were pregnant, I had a mini freak-out moment. But then it was like this new sense of purpose came over me. Once you knew too, mywolf was all smug and proud of himself. He wanted to take care of you, both of you.”

“That’s why you were so good to me that night? Your wolf demanded it?”

He pursed his lips, contemplating her question. “Yes and no. He and I wanted the same thing. Wewere harmonious, which, I think, helped keep me so calm.” He reached for her hands. “I didn’t know you were meant to be mine. I knew I cared for you, and I loved our baby, but after we were together the other night…” He wasn’t sure how to word the rest, the biggest truth that needed to be spoken between them. “Wolves mate for life, Callie.”

She was quiet for a few moments, as if she was absorbing the reality of their situation. “The baby, was that what bonded us? Have we been mated this whole time?”

He shook his head, bringing their joined hands up to kiss the back of hers. “It was the other night. When we were together. I swear I didn’t do it on purpose.I didn’t know. When I didn’t use a condom, there was nothing between us and that sealed your fate. I claimed you that night.”

“Are you telling me you accidentally claimed me during a pity fuck?”

“Did you just say pity fuck?” He couldn’t help but chuckle as he moved forward and settled between her thighs. “Nothing about that night had anything to do with pity, baby. I wanted you so very much. And yeah, I didn’t intend to claim you, but fate doesn’t make mistakes. To be fair, I did ask you to stop me and you kept begging for more.”

She rolled her pretty eyes. “When you told my father you planned on marrying me?”

He kissed her lips, stealing a moment to show her how much he craved her, grateful she was letting him touch her. “It was the easiest way I could think of to get him to leave you alone, to give him what he wanted. I was barely able to contain my wolf as it was; if he’d grabbed you one more time, we would’ve had a huge problem. Even though I hadn’t gotten a chance to tell you everything, I knew we were already more than married. Our souls are tied together, bound for eternity.” He kissed her again, pushing her back on the lounger where she was perched.“I was put on this earth to make you happy, to love you. In that one instant, you became my entire universe.”

“Pretty words for a self-proclaimed fuck-boy, don’t you think?”

He couldn’t help but laugh again. “You’ve got a dirty mouth tonight.” He stood, removing his pants before bending down to pull off her pajama shorts as well. “I like it.” He spread her thighs, moving in to lick at her core. “I’m a one-woman fuck-boy from now on.” He nipped and sucked his way to her mouth, kissing her as he sunk his cock inside her warmth.

Her gaze flew to the glass patio doors. “Who closed the curtains?”

He sucked on her neck, letting her flesh go with a pop and marking her because his wolf wanted to. “Axie.Sheflipped me the bird and a wink while she did it.”

Callie put her hands over her face, speaking behind her fingers. “They know we’re out here naked?”

“Baby, when it comes to mated couples, always assume someone’s naked. Always close the curtains, always knock three times.” He began to move, thrusting into her carefully so he didn’t throw them off the damn chair. He pulled her hands away from her face so he could continue to kiss her as he fucked her senseless in his brother’s backyard.

He was so damn happy to be inside her perfect body. Everything felt right in his world now that she was back in his arms.

She knew the truth and she was still here, letting him love her the way his wolf demanded.

She would have questions. There was more they would need to figure out. For now though, this was what they both needed. To erase the distance between them.

Chapter Thirty-Nine

Callahan

The guys had come down the mountain, claiming they smelled the bacon cooking in Jace’s kitchen. Jasper still got his night under the stars. He and Callahanslept tangled together on a blanket in the grass. She’d be lying if she said her back wasn’t killing her, but it’d been worth it. Jasper had been sweet, romantic, all the things he’d swore he could never be. Hearts and flowers, over and over.

The whole pack was scattered around the kitchen and spilling into the living room, plates balanced on laps and babies crawling all over the place. Jasper was feeding Allison whileCallahanwas holding one of Molly’s twins. She could never tell them apart. She wasn’tsure if she was holding Bhodi or Riot.
