Addison and I had decided to keep the baby to ourselves, just for a little while. She wanted us to meet the most important people in our lives first, and acclimate to being an official couple before announcing the happy news.

Slowly, over the course of the meal, Addison slowly relaxed, and was eventually laughing and getting along with Sarah as if they’d known each other for years.

While I had a high expectation that Sarah and Addison would likely hit it off, I couldn’t help but feel relieved that they were, in fact, getting along. It was just one more indicator that Addison was someone that I could potentially spend the rest of my life with.

Addison excused herself to the restroom.

Sarah gave me a knowing look and glanced at Addisons full wine glass. “She has a glow, Damian.”

My lips twitched. “I wouldn’t know anything about that.”

“Hmmm, I see.” Sarah smiled deviously and took another sip of her wine. “I’m happy for you.”

“Nothing to be happy about.” I said casually.

Carter raised his brows at me with a grin.

“I’ll get the dessert. I made tiramisu.”

“Sounds delicious, thank you, Sarah.”

Carter shifted in his seat. “You dog, you. Looks like you’re finally getting everything you wanted. I’m happy for you, man.”

I smirked at him over the rim of my whiskey glass.

“You proposing soon?”

“Maybe.”

“You love her?”

“She’s going to be the mother of my child.” I responded.

Carter grinned at my admission, “Come on, what’s the holdup?”

“We’re just taking things slow.”

“You’re having a kid together.”

“We’re figuring things out.” My lips twitched.

Behind me, the floorboard creaked softly, and I heard Addison suck a sharp breath in. I turned around in my chair and caught her eyes. She stood frozen just outside the room, just within earshot. Her lower lip trembled, and her eyes flashed with anger. She bolted down the halfway, and I heard my keys scrape across the entry table as she grabbed them.

“Fuck.” I stood up quickly, following after her and chasing her as she bolted through the front door. “Addison–”

Addison loaded herself into my Porsche and peeled out of the driveway.

I growled in exasperation.

Sarah materialized in the hallway. “What’s going on?”

Carter came into the hallway. “Damian’s an idiot.”

I came back into the house and rubbed my temples in exasperation, and Sarah looked between the two of us.

“He hasn’t told her he loves her yet.”

“Damian.” Sarah scolded.
