“Horizon View is the building you just bought?” I asked with sharp accusation.

“Mhmm, yes, why do you ask?” His breath was hot and hungry against my neck, making it hard to think.

Suddenly, I was piecing things together. Damian West of West Industries. He had told me he acquired buildings, tearing them down to build bigger, nicer buildings.

“What are you planning on doing with it?” I questioned.

“We’re going to tear it all down, and build a luxury hotel. I'll fill you in on all the details so you can finish up with the contracts this afternoon.”

I breathed in sharply. “It was you.” My tone was thick with surprise and accusation.

He pulled back, looking at me.

“It was you who put me out of business.” My world was spinning and shattering.

This can’t be fucking happening.

It had been one thing after another. And now I had been betrayed once more by someone who had taken yet another piece of my heart. Soon there would be nothing left to chip away. I felt the anger boiling up in me. I shouldn’t have let him take me on his desk, that was for sure. It was completely unprofessional. But this was unforgivable.

I stood there with my mouth agape.

Understanding slowly washed over his face as he looked at me and took a step back. “Your business was in Horizon View.”

“I can’t believe this.” I stood up and pulled my skirt down, glancing around for my underwear. “After everything I worked so hard for, after everything I sacrificed. Everything my parents gave me. After Jack, after Hawaii, and the worst of all it, was losing my business. And it wasyouwho did it.” I was raging angry now.

Not seeing my underwear, I scanned the paperwork in my hand, seeing information about an upcoming demolition and dates undetermined.

“You haven’t torn it down yet. You can save the building.” I paced in my disheveled state, quickly scanning over what I saw. Scrambling, looking for a solution to this.

“Addy…” He looked at me like he felt sorry for me.

“Damian.” I said pointedly as I stood there staring at him. “Damian, don’t do this.” I came to stand in front of him, pleading. He held all the power. He could undo the nightmare that had been my life in the last few days.

He tilted his head and grazed a thumb over my lower lip, responding softly, “Addy, it’s done.”

“Damian, please.” I begged.

He dropped his hand, looking at me with such pity. “Contracts have been signed, people have been hired, there’s no undoing this.”

I took a step back, feeling my heart breaking into a thousand pieces for so many reasons.

“I’m sorry Addy, it’s just business.” He shook his head and said evenly.

“Addy.” I scoffed. “As if you cared about me enough to call me that. Did you ever stop to think about all those business owners you were screwing over? It’s not just business, it’s people's livelihoods. It’s people's hopes and dreams.”

“I don’t know what to tell you Addison, this was a business decision, and even if I’d known your business was here, there’s nothing I could have done.”

“So you’re saying even if you knew, you still would have screwed me over?”

“That’s not what I said.”

“That’s exactly what you said.” I spat. “You’re unbelievable, you know that.”

“Why don’t you just rent a different space?” He snapped back.

“I can’t fucking afford it, thanks to you.”

“Thanks to me? How about thanks to me, you have a job now?”
