I didn’t know what I wanted, and frankly, I was getting tired of this bullshit. I slumped back in my chair and stared at the sparkling diamond bracelet now locked on my wrist.

What the fuck.

I sat there on the verge of tears fuming. It was all a big power play between the two of us, each pushing the other to the edge, threatening to throw the other off. At this rate, maybe I would just throw the towel in and throw myself off first.

Maybe I should just quit.

The evening ticked on as I worked late, digitizing some of the confidential contracts that had been mailed over, signed with pen and ink. When I finally finished, most of the other employees had left, and lights down the hall of the office were off.

“Damian?” I pushed his door open and set the contracts down on his desk. “These are all digitized.”

He nodded, looking tired, as he clacked away at his computer.

“I’m going to need you to come in early tomorrow.”

“What time?”

“Five a.m.”

“Sure thing.” I left him typing away on his computer and rolled my eyes as I headed home. I didn’t have the energy to fight him on it, I just wanted to climb into bed and be done with the day. Especially if I had to get up that early. I would be on a short fuse with less sleep as it was.

When I got home, I sat on the bathroom counter with the end of a bobby pin jammed into the bracelet clasp, trying to pick the tiny little lock that was currently binding me to Damian. Exhausted, I finally gave up. Potato stood on the counter, very interested in what I was doing. I picked him up and hauled him off to bed with me. “What are we going to do, Potato? What are we going to do?”

DAMIAN

I watchedthrough my open door as Addison sat at her desk, she was on the phone looking defeated, waving her hands around. She’d been relatively mellow this week, not instigating as much as she normally did. She looked upset, and I wondered what had her riled up now. Curious, I picked up the phone and listened in on the line she was on.

“-it’s just I don’t know what else you want me to do.” A man's voice whined through the phone.

“I don’t fucking want you to do anything, Jack. I want you to leave me the fuck alone. No correction, I want– I need you to pay for the damn annulment, so we can be done with this,” Addison snapped.

“Addy, baby, don’t be like that. It was a mistake, a one-time thing.”

“You and I both know it wasn’t even remotely a one-time thing.”

“You’re making a bigger deal –”

“Jack, you fucked this up, and you’re going to unfuck it. Okay?” She pleaded.

I had heard enough, and I hung up my end of the line. “Addison.” I called from my office.

I saw her eyes flick up and to me and she quickly finished in even more hushed tones and then she hung up the phone. She sat there for a moment, disassociating, before she got up and came into my office.

“Yes?” She said softly.

“What was that all about?”

“Oh, that?” She looked embarrassed. “Sorry, that was nothing.”

“It didn’t sound like nothing. You’re still married.” I stated.

She looked up at the ceiling and sighed. “I don’t know why you asked if you were listening. Yes. Technically, I am still married. Jack thought if he recorded our signed marriage certificate, he could trick me into staying. So now I have to pay for an annulment, which I don’t have the money to do. So yes. I am still married to a fucking cheater.” She fiddled with her bracelet on her wrist. “I thought you knew that though, the day I started you said–”

“It was a good guess.”

“Hmmm.” She narrowed her eyes at me.
