“Yeah, I know. It’s complicated.” I wanted to tell her the truth, but I wasn’t sure who to tell what at this point. I was still trying to sort through the situation for myself.

What the hell. I need someone to talk to.

“So you remember that guy I was shacking up with in Hawaii?”

“Yeah?”

“Well, it was my boss, Damian.”

“Are you freaking serious?”

“Yeah, and it’s complicated right now. I don’t know how much I can explain at the moment.”

“So you're engaged to your one-night stand, slash, boss, slash the guy who put you out of business? What is going on, Addy?”

“Don’t even get me started.” I grunted. “Hey listen, I gotta let you go. We’ll talk more soon.”

“You’re coming out with me this weekend. I need all the juicy details. I’m not taking no for an answer.”

“I can’t. I have that work event.”

“Ok, next weekend then.”

“Ok, fine.”

“Good. Love you. See you later.”

Mike took me back to the office, and then a few hours later, I was back in the car and he was taking me home.

I climbed into bed feel nauseous, wondering how I had let things get this bad, and how they’d spiraled this out of control. I considered Damian and his threat earlier, and I felt my pulse rise. I slid my hand down my stomach and imagined it was Damian’s and I finally gave myself the release I had been needing since Damian had left me high and dry in the elevator.

Fuck Damian and his rules.

But the truth was, all I wanted to do was fuck Damian, despite all the rules.

DAMIAN

I had finally gottenthe go ahead for the Horizon View building to come down, and it was scheduled for next week. I breathed a sigh of relief. All the pieces were coming together.

Addison came in with my coffee.

“Thanks, love.”

“Yup.” She started back out of my office.

“How are things with Jack?”

“He’s still trying to get in contact. I don’t know.”

“You know you can press charges now, with the restraining order.”

“I know. I don't think that's necessary.”

I moved to the door and closed it, pulling her up to me and kissing her. “You know you can always come stay with me.”

“I don’t think that would be a good idea.”
