No one takes catholicism as seriously as an Irish mother.

I pull out my navy Seersucker suit and add a vest for the occasion. I make sure I groom my beard and comb my hair, so I look like a respectable member of society. For today, at least.

Tomorrow, I’ll go back to being the pinning mess of a man who can’t seem to get over a tiny little Puerto Rican chick with no ass and a bad attitude.

I’m early, but need to get out of the house before I go crazy. So I head over to a coffee shop and grab a cold brew, then make my way to the church to wait for the rest of my family.

I’m parking my truck when a flash of silver catches my eye.

“Jesus, Mary, and Joseph,” I whisper to myself as I get out of the truck and cross myself for taking the Lord’s name in vain on holy ground.

Am I imagining it?

I’ve been wishing for her to come back or for Glitch to find her, but it’s like she dropped off the face of the earth, and now here she is in my fucking car like I won the fucking lottery.

I open the driver’s side door and pull her out by her hair.

“You fucking bitch.” I snarl before I kiss the shit out of her.

“Miss me?” She gasps between our lips, and I growl.

“Why?” My voice fucking cracks as I pull away and shake her for good measure.

A caravan of vehicles is pulling up behind us, and doors start to open.

“Can we go someplace and talk? I can explain.” I grab her arm tighter and pull her closer to me.

“No, start fucking talking. Why did you run? I told you, you aren’t alone in this anymore. Why won’t you let me help?” She starts to shake like a firecracker, ready to go off.

“BECAUSE HE’LL KILL ME!” Mercy screams in my face, and I quickly look around and catch a half dozen eyes on us.

Nope, she’s right. We can’t do this here. I open the passenger door, and she gets in. I slam it closed and around the car before looking back at Wolf.

“I’m sorry,” I call out to him and Darius, who are both watching me in shock.

I peel out of the parking lot and head back to my house.

“Who?” I ask through my clenched teeth.

“Gabriel.” I take the turn into my development a little too fast, and my neighbors frown at me.

Fuck them.

“Why now?” I slam the brakes and put the car in park, turning to face her.

“Mercy!” I shout when she doesn’t answer.

“Because now I know, he killed Joaquin. And if I’m not careful, I’ll never see my little girl again.”

MERCEDES

Spark just watchesme as the vein above his left eye twitches. I reach up and smooth it with my thumb, but he doesn’t stop staring at me.

“Fine. Where is he?” I swallow and shake my head.

“I’m done chasing you, Little Mouse. I’m going to eliminate the threat and get our little girl back.” I gasp at him, calling Lucy his.
