He shows me a photo of a man standing with two boys in front of him. They look to be about ten. I shrug, not having a clue who they are.

“How about this one?” He presses a button, and the screen changes to two men in suits, and I look at them closely.

“They look like typical Miami tourists.” He frowns and turns his computer around again.

“How about the name Andrés Rivera?” Shock fills my system at the sound of my father’s name.

“My dad?” He nods and turns the laptop again.

This picture has my father and mother standing next to the man and two boys from the first. I shake my head, confused.

“The older man in the middle is Alvaro Rivera, your grandfather. Your mother’s maiden name is Baez. Alejandro and Ignacio Baez are your cousins.” I look up at him, not sure where he’s going with any of this.

“The Baez brothers run a few businesses, including trafficking.” The dots start to connect now, and I slump back in my chair.

“They’re involved with MalaSangre.” He nods.

“Gabriel was working for them. They were in charge of the security at the docks, transportation, and distribution.” He fiddles with the laptop, and another photo pops up.

I know this one very well.

“Andrés and Lilith married after your mom passed. It was an arranged marriage between two businesses. When she failed to produce an heir, they broke the business contract and struck another one with a different family.” He switches the photo to one of Joaquin and me.

“I still don’t understand.” My head is starting to hurt from the info dump.

“Rivera, Baez, DeJesus…” He rolls his hands like that’s supposed to help me somehow.

“I got nothing, Abel. Just spit it out, please. I’m sick of being in the dark.” He nods and takes off his glasses with a sigh.

“You might wish differently after I tell you.” A cold chill runs down my back.

“Are you being dramatic? Spark says you’re known for your theatrics.” He shakes his head.

“I’m getting too old for this shit.” He leans back in his chair and takes a deep breath.

“Lucifer DeJesus is heiress to the RBD Auto Exports.” My mouth opens in shock because that name I do recognize.

“That’s a billion-dollar racing corporation,” I whisper.

He nods.

“How?” We’ve never been poor, but we’ve always scraped by on the bare minimum.

“Alvero is still in control, but his health is failing. He’s in his late eighties, and when he dies, it all goes to Lucy.” I shake my head.

“There’s more.” Of course, there is.

“This is the main front for all the illegal businesses the individual families run. That is why everyone is after her. How ever controls the company will gain all the power, including dissolving it.” Oh, God.

“They going to want to kill her.” He shakes his head.

“They can’t. If she dies before she turns twenty-five or gets married, the company will go into a trust.” My eyes narrow.

“Ignacio Baez ordered Joaquin to marry you. Then he had Gabriel take Lucy away so that when she was old enough, he could marry her.” I’m going to be sick.

“Joaquin knew?” I clutch my stomach and slowly rock myself.

“Listen, all I can tell you are the facts I found. Whatever feeling developed, I wouldn’t know. I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Truly, but you needed to know so you can protect yourself and Lucy.” He rubs my back as I try not to vomit all over the floor.
