“Give me a kiss.”

“What?” she squeaked, and I shot forward, keeping pressure at the base of my nose. Tenley scrambled backwards, attempting to jump off of the mattress. But I caught her ankle before she managed to dive off the side and dragged her back.

“Come on, darling. I’m all puckered up and ready,” I taunted as she squirmed and wiggled.

“Yuck! You have blood on your face,” she said, stopping. Flopping on her stomach, she laid flat out.

I grinned and patted at my nose. She hadn’t hit me that hard, and I figured the bleeding was beginning to slow, if not already stopped altogether.

She narrowed her gaze and looked at me from the side.

I made smoochy sounds at her.

“Weston Duke, stop it,” she chastised, and I leaned my head back. She thought it was her chance to escape and tried to scramble off my legs again.

“Where do you think you’re going?” I teased, wrapping my hand around both of her ankles.

“To go get you toilet paper, or something.”

“Right, you’re just trying to get out of giving me a kiss.” I wiggled my brows as she flopped against the bed again, her bum landing directly in front of me.

“Obviously.” She rolled her eyes, and I spanked her.

Her mouth flew open.

And I ripped my hand away, as shocked as she was.

Honestly, I wasn’t sure why I did that, but it happened and now I couldn’t take it back.

She stared at me in complete bewilderment as I felt like my heart was about to rip out of my chest. Pounding blood pumped through my ears, heavy drumming as I sat frozen—as still as I could. I did everything I could to remain calm and collected. At least on the exterior, because internally I was dying.

That was not a line I had intended to cross. Especially this early in the relationship, but here we were locked in silence.

Slowly, she closed her mouth and sat up. I watched her, my mind turning blank as she cautiously slid a leg over mine and straddled my lap once more. Her eyes were wide, sparkling as a smile crept across her lips.

I blinked.

Dazed.

She was smiling.

“Let me check to see if it’s stopped bleeding.” Her voice was quiet as she watched me.

Hesitantly, I pulled the shirt away from my face and set it down on the nightstand beside me. She rocked closer to my nose, trying to make herself tall enough to be eye-level with me.

And paused. “Don’t you dare try to kiss me,” she cautioned.

“I don’t know why—” I began, but she clamped her hand on my chin and shoved my head backwards, jerking it side to side to inspect the damage And silencing me.

“I think it looks fine.” She breathed out in relief.

“You really didn’t hit my nose that hard,” I replied, and she gently placed her hands back in her lap.

“I didn’t mind,” she whispered, her voice cracking as things drifted back to my very unintentional boundary cross. “I mean, you could do it again, if you wanted.” She pulled her bottom lip between her teeth, and I raised a brow.

As the loudest moo ricocheted around the room.
