“Well, hello.” I walk my fingers up his fluffy chest. “Has anyone told you that you’re a very attractive bunny?”

“If they did, I wasn’t listening. I’m a very happily attached bunny.” He slaps a sticker over the area covering my left breast, patting several times for good measure.

When I glance down to read the bold text, a giggle escapes me. “Some bunny loves me. How original.”

“And don’t you forget it.” He sticks one on the other boob to match.

“Branded by the Easter Bunny. That sounds like the opening lines of a very inappropriate story.” I bite my thumbnail while giving his costume a thorough once-over.

“Careful, Pitch. It’s almost impossible to see in this thing, but I’m not blind.” The growly edge in his voice unfurls heat in my lower belly. “Have I mentioned what the sight of you holding a baby does to me?”

My lashes flutter with mock innocence. “No.”

“It fills me with a barbaric urge to get you round with my child.”

“That’s quite a development.” I get dizzy as the visual flips an instinctual switch inside of me.

“Only a matter of time until you let me.”

I rise onto the balls of my feet to reach the mesh window near his mouth. “Make sure to find me when you’re done bunnying and daddying and you’re ready to do me dirty.”

“The way you tease me, woman.” Jake bumps me with his hips. “And for the record, that’s not a carrot in my pocket.”

“Should I take a bite just to be sure?”

“If you lick me long enough, you’ll get to the cream filling.”

“Oh, my.” I flutter a palm to my chest, feigning a scandal. “Is there a certain amount that it takes?”

“Mommy!”

“Holy shiitake mushrooms!” I leap straight into the air, yelping when Sydney suctions herself to my hip. “Didn’t see you there, superstar.”

“Do you want a sucker?” She produces a lollipop from seemingly nowhere.

“Uh, thanks.” I accept the proffered treat.

“You can find out how many licks it takes to reach the center.”

My face flames. “Why would I need to know that?”

Syd rolls her eyes. “You asked Daddy how many it takes.”

I slap a palm to my roasting cheek. “Oh, no.”

Jake’s chuckle rumbles from under the protection that masks his humiliation. “Rookie move, Pitch. You’ll get better with practice.”

Strong arms cinch around me from behind. I lean against the comforting wall of muscle, a sigh wheezing from me. “Where have you been?”

“In the audience. You’re the one who assigned my seat,” Jake murmurs into the crook of my neck.

I roll my eyes. “Before that.”

“Had something I’ve been meaning to finish.” He shifts his hold to show me the bandage on his forearm.

“A tattoo?” I can’t recall what design is underneath. Come to think of it, he often distracts me whenever I’ve wanted to get a closer look at that section.

Jake peels the protective layer away. Even cast in shadows, the fresh ink is clearly visible. My jaw slowly unhinges as the significance settles in.
