But in ten days, that is exactly what I will have.

A wife.

Mywife.

PIPER

I’m notsure what I expected, but what I didn’t imagine was to not see Itch at all the past three days. But that’s exactly what’s happened. I’ve spent the last three days getting things ready for the wedding, with dress fitting appointments and Henli, who has been meeting with people here to discuss decorations and things.

I am a bystander in all these things. A complete bystander, and I’m okay with that because I have no idea what’s happening. I’m sitting up in bed, my first morning when I haven’t had anything planned with Henli in days.

I’m thinking about staying in my room all day long. I don’t want to go anywhere or do anything. I may not even leave the bed.

I’m exhausted.

Plus, the wedding is getting closer, and I’m starting to stress out about my brothers being there. I don’t really want to see them at all. Especially Dutch. Raul isn’t any better, but I don’t want to ever see Dutch again.

There is knock on the bedroom door. I open my mouth to tell whoever it is to come in, but the door opens before I can say anything. It’s him. He’s standing in front of me wearing his uniform of perfect fitting jeans, a tight T-shirt, and his cut.

“Itch?” I ask, my voice barely above a whisper.

His brows snap together, and he steps into my space, closing the bedroom door behind him. “Are you sick?”

That is his greeting. Three little words with a question mark at the end. And for the first time in my entire life, I feel as if someone is concerned for me. Granted, it seems everything that has to do with feeling protected, cared for, anything emotional, has Itch at the source of it all.

And here he is again, asking me if I’m okay.

My lips curve up into a smile, and I shake my head once. “I’m fine. I just decided to spend the day relaxing. I’ve been really busy the past few days. I’m tired.”

His brows rise as if he’s surprised by my words. “Sorry I had to leave town for a few days, but I’ve been meaning to get this to you,” he states before he tosses a small bag toward me.

I catch it before it lands on the bed, and I frown. It’s small. I look inside and take out the box at the bottom. It’s a phone. A brand-new phone. I lift my head. It’s my turn for my brows to rise as I stare across the room at him.

“A phone?” I ask.

He hums. “Already saved your number and added mine to it. Up to you to add the rest of your contacts,” he states.

There is a dark green case and chargers in the box, but at the absolute bottom is a little rectangle object. He said he would give this to me after we were married, but I almost didn’t quite believe him.

“A credit card,” I whisper.

“Ordered it, so you could go ahead and get whatever house shit you need,” he states.

Tears. They well in my eyes as I stare across the room at him. I don’t know what to say. I’m speechless. Completely and totally speechless. I don’t think he realizes what these two things truly mean to me.

They equal freedom.

I know I’m not free by any means, but these, they give me a sense of freedom I never thought would be possible in my entire life. A car would probably send me over the edge, so I’m glad there are no keys for one in the bag as well.

“Thank you,” I whisper, lifting my hand to wipe the tears from my eyes.

“Got some shit I need to do the next few days. I’ll be out of pocket, but you’ll be okay, yeah? Call me if you need me.”

I almost ask him if he’s joking. Will I beokay? I have a phone and a credit card. I have a new home. My world is better than I ever could have imagined. But I don’t say any of that. Instead, I give him a smile.

“I’ll be okay.”
