Hell’s Souls have no issues dealing in skin. They’ve been doing it for years. It’s one of the things that makes them a bit more ruthless and gives them more of a reputation than we have. We’ve always been perfectly fine with that.

We do cars and dope, sometimes guns. I like it that way. We all do. This is a whole new territory, and I’m not comfortable with it at all—not even if it means I get my Piper back.

“How long is the contract for?” Legacy asks.

“No,” I hiss.

He holds up his hand, his gaze cutting to me. “I make the decisions here, and I can speak for the whole fucking club when I say that we protect our old ladies. So, we protect Piper, and if this is how we do it, then this is what we do for now. Besides, without Raul being in the mix, that’s five months of his shit we won’t have to worry about.”

“You’re going to trade one bastard, one group of illegal bullshit, for another?” I ask.

“Yeah, we are,” Legacy states. “Because you are as close to my blood as anyone, and she is your woman.”

The guilt that swims around inside my belly, I can’t keep it down. It crawls up my throat threatening to choke me. I’m glad I’m sitting, because I think right now, my knees would give out on me.

“Brother,” I hiss.

“It’s a one-year contract. We can do this for a year,” he rasps.

Shaking my head, I look at him. “I will do this for a year. Nobody else.”

Duke grins and leans forward. “And I’ll do it with you. He’s asking for some more shit from me, but I’ll do this with you. This shit, it’s not your club’s shit. You want to be legit, and I admire that. We do this for a year, Itch and the Hell’s Souls, and then you’re all clean, and we’re just old acquaintances.”

Legacy chuckles. “I would like to think we’d still be friends even if we’re legit. Especially after all this shit.”

Duke snorts. “Friends,” he murmurs.

I watch as he reaches for the pen that’s in a cup at the end of the conference table. Sinking my teeth into my bottom lip, I take in the way he skims the paper, then signs it almost immediately. I wonder if he signed that a little too quickly.

I don’t say anything, but when Legacy reads the document, I notice that he takes a lot longer. It causes the hairs on the back of my neck to stand at attention. I don’t know if it means anything, and maybe they are in shit together, but at the same time, this is temporary.

He uses the pen and makes a few marks, signs it, then slides it over to me. “Sign your portion,” he grunts. “Although I want to make it clear that I do not agree with you doing this shit on your own.”

My lips press into a thin line, and I start to tell him that it doesn’t fucking matter when that goddamn door opens again and Piper is pushed froward with Chavez behind her, his hand gripping her bicep.

He’s dead.

I will kill him.

This contract is going to be null and void as soon as humanly possibly because I will kill this motherfucker, and the first thing I do before I end his life is going to be to cut off that goddamn hand of his.

“Are we done here?” I ask, flicking my gaze to the hand that is wrapped around her arm.

He’s got his gun in his other grasp, but I would drop him before he could even lift it up, let alone pull the trigger. He’s too comfortable, and I’m on fucking edge. His gaze flicks to the papers in the middle of the table, and he jerks his chin.

“It’s signed?” he asks.

“It’s Hell’s Souls and Itch here. The rest of the Devil’s Hellions won’t be involved unless there’s a reason. Itch is taking this responsibility on himself,” Duke murmurs.

PIPER

My heart sinks at the thought of Itch doing this. Trafficking women. Taking girls like me and giving them to monsters. I don’t want any part of it, and I know that he doesn’t either.

Reaching for the contract, I make a snap decision that I know is probably the wrong one, but I can’t let these men do something they are against for my sake. I take that contract from the table as Chavez’s fingers grip my arm even tighter. He jerks me backward slightly, but I already have the papers in my hand.

Holding them up, I flick my gaze to Itch. “I won’t let you do this. Not for me,” I rasp.

And then, before anyone can stop me, I rip the documents in half.
