Almost.

“You doing this alone, babe,” Justin mutters.

I don’t know if that’s a statement or a question, but I decide to answer as if it’s a question. “I am,” I confess. “I’m okay with that.”

A lie.

A full-blown lie.

I am not okay with doing any of this without Agony, and I feel an immense amount of guilt for even contemplating it, let alone actually doing it. But I can’t call him again. There is nothing I can do. There’s nothing to say.

It’s all been said.

Essentially anyway.

“You got me and Charley, but babe?” Justin calls out.

He waits for me to lift my head, and I do. Looking across the bar, Justin gives me a grin. “You got me, however that looks. I’m good with it, Reese.”

So nice.

He is so damn nice.

So is Charley.

These men are amazing, and I don’t deserve even an ounce of their kindness, but they’re giving it to me. I don’t deserve them. But I’m not so proud that I won’t accept it. I’m going to take it all and just hope I can repay them one day.

“Thank you,” I whisper.

“You’re part of the crew now,” he says, but I can tell there is more to that. He wants there to be so much more. And even though I don’t want him that way, I can appreciate the kindness in his words.

“Thanks, Justin. You don’t know what that means to me.”

There is a moment of silence, then he rounds the bar. Charley clears his throat, leaves the bar area, and slips to the back room somewhere. Justin stands in front of me, almost too close, and lifts his hand, cupping my cheek.

“Didn’t think kids were in the cards. But, babe, I could see it with you. However that looks. I’m a man who can wait.”

My heart twists. This is the dream of every girl in my position, and yet, it’s nothing even close to who or what I want. Instead of being ungrateful, I give him a small smile.

“Thanks, Justin,” I exhale.

ChapterTen

AGONY

“How about Ijust slit his goddamn throat first, then I start with you assholes,” Diaz growls.

Logan’s eyes widen. He jerks in his chair but is tied down so fucking tightly that he doesn’t go anywhere. His gaze narrows before his cheeks puff out in annoyance. Clearing my throat as Diaz takes a knife out of its sheath, I shake my head once.

“Don’t do that,” I mutter.

He arches a brow, lifting the knife to his lips before he kisses the side of the blade. “Oh yeah? Why?”

This asshole is trying to make a name for himself here and in the underworld, something that I give zero shits about. Taking half a step forward, I reach for my gun but rest my hand on the end as I continue to watch this guy.

“Because I’m not here to prove anything. But you killing someonejust becauseseems really fucking stupid.”

“Just because?” Diaz shouts.
