Page 113 of Killer's Kiss

Her low growl sent chills down my spine. Our relationship had just been soured beyond any redemption. She might have eventually forgiven me for stealing her son, but she would never forgive me stealing her position.

“What say the pack?” Larkin repeated.

Against all the odds, the yeas won. Not by much, but that didn’t matter.

Larkin’s smile grew. He was on our side, I realized. “Do you need time to consider your replacement?”

“No.” I turned and looked at Ciara. Surprise flitted across her expression, then she smiled and gave a short, brief nod. “I name Aiden’s sister, Ciara.”

I glanced at Karleen as I said it. Her gaze narrowed, and her aura was a seething mess of differing emotions. I’d been right. She wouldn’t ever forgive this.

Let the battle begin anew, I thought, but for just this moment, didn’t really care. The magic in this place would protect me from any physical attack, while rumors, lies, and verbal attacks could be countered by my actions. By living amongst the pack and letting them seeme.

Larkin dismissed the meeting, and Aiden led me from the building so quickly I was almost running to keep up. “Why the hurry?” I asked with a laugh.

“I’ve something to show you,” he said. “Something I’ve been working on for months now.”

“Oh yeah?” I said. “What?”

“Wait.”

“I hate waiting.”

He chuckled. “So I’ve learned.”

We walked past several gorgeous old longhouses and stopped in front of one with a scarlet red door, white picket fence, and a small front yard filled with wildflowers as bright and as lovely as the ones that bloomed across the earthen roof.

My heart caught… I once told him that I wanted the whole white-picket-fence ideal. This couldn’t be… surely he hadn’t been planning our marriage for so long that he’d had time to do allthis.

His eyes shone in delight as they met mine. “What do you think?”

“It’s gorgeous, but what has it to do with you and me?”

“This, my dear witch, will be our house.” He paused. “Unless, of course, you hate it. Then we’ll find somewhere else within the reservation. It might be normal for the alpha to live near the hall, but given we’re breaking rules left, right, and center—”

I laughed, leapt into his arms, and kissed him. “It’s perfect. Absolutely perfect.”

“You haven’t seen inside yet. It’s a mess and definitely needs a woman’s touch.”

“I don’t care.”

“Good.” He bent and swept me into his arms. “Then, my dear wife-to-be, let me carry you over the threshold so you can inspect your future home.”

We not only inspected, we christened.

It was the perfect way to start our life in the compound.
