“I’m sorry,” we both said at the same time, then laughed.

Hunter shook his head. “I’m the one who needs to apologize, Clark. I pounced on you like a horny teen. It’s kind of embarrassing.”

My heart sank. “Oh. Well, it’s okay if you want to forget it happened.”

“I don’t want that. I meant what I said Saturday. I like you.” He looked uncertain. “Unless…do you want to forget it?”

“No,” I said softly, caught off-guard by the vulnerable look in his eyes. It took a lot of courage for Hunter to be so honest with me. “If you pounced, I did too.” I hesitated. “Let me shut the door so we can talk without worrying someone will hear.”

“Good idea,” he said.

I retreated to the doorway, cast a look into the hall, and, seeing no one, closed and locked the classroom door. “Where’s Toby?”

“I sent him out to the vending machine with a couple of bucks. He’s fine for a few minutes.”

Hunter leaned a hip against my desk, looking casual but sexy. His arms were crossed over his chest, only emphasizing the size of his shoulders and biceps. But I didn’t feel threatened by his strength. It sent a wash of warmth through me. I cut a glance to his hands, remembering the hot path they’d coasted up my stomach and chest.

A shiver went through me.Damn. I was going to get hard if I kept thinking about Hunter touching me.

I cleared my throat. “I’m sorry I took off the way I did. We should have talked properly.”

He held out a hand to me as I neared, and I took it, letting him draw me closer. “You needed some space. That’s understandable. I talked with Kevin, and he gave me some good advice, so I’m going to be honest and upfront. I’ve never been with a man, and I know that might make you nervous. Hell, it makes me nervous.”

There was a slight quiver in his voice that told me it was true. But his eyes remained locked on mine, intense as he continued speaking. “You make me feel all sorts of things I didn’t expect, Clark. You’re so kind and compassionate. Amazing with your students. You…make me want to get closer. I haven’t felt this kind of pull to anyone in a long time, and I know it might not be fair to ask you to let me figure this out. I can’t promise anything...” He chuckled nervously. “I’m flying kind of blind.”

I moistened my lips, nervous to voice the question. “So, are you wanting to just experiment, or…”

“No,” he said quickly. “This isn’t really about sex. I mean…I’d like that.” He flashed me a disarming smile that made me want to drop to my knees then and there and offer to enlighten him about sex with a man. “But this isn’t some hookup, you know? These fake dates have felt pretty real to me.”

“To me too,” I admitted.

“I would like to explore what a relationship would be like. The whole thing. I want to learn about you…your hopes, your dreams.” His voice dropped in register. “Your body, your pleasure zones. All of it.”

Oh god.

My breath stuttered. “Okay.”

He looked surprised. “Yeah?”

“Yeah.” I yanked his head down and kissed him, unable to resist even a second longer. “We can see where it goes.”

He crushed me against his hard chest, holding me tight. “Good,” he said, a wealth of relief in his voice. “I was terrified you’d say no.”

I smiled against the cotton of his shirt. “I was terrified you’d have second thoughts about wanting to kiss me.”

Hunter raised my face for a soft, brief brush of lips. “Never.”

“So what now?” I asked tentatively. “Everyone already thinks we’re dating, so…I guess nothing changes?”

“Oh, I hope a few things change,” he said with a wicked smile that made me wish we were anywhere but a school classroom.

“And what about Toby? He’s not ready for this. We started fake dating to give him time…”

Hunter looked troubled. “I don’t want to keep things from him, but he’s doing so much better. He’s happier than he’s been in a long time, and while this isn’t an experiment, it’s still really new.”

I nodded. “We should wait. If you don’t like being with me, if you decide you really are straight…”

“Clark,” he said in a stern tone that rolled through me like an aphrodisiac. “If you could have seen inside my head this past week, all the things I’ve wanted to do to you, that’s the last thing you’d worry about.”
