Please, Fallon! He’s my fated mate!

My connection with Jasper is real. Daithi admitted as much.

The only reason the patriarch was able to enter his body at all is because this is a true fated-mate bond. One that he intends to abuse for his own means.

That seems to get Fallon’s attention. She keeps her grip on Jasper’s shoulders as he thrashes, but she’s looking at me. Her white-washed eyes are alive with death magic, but I can spot the sisterly concern underneath.

The vampire?she asks.

Yes!I grab onto her wrists. And if you kill him, you’ll be killingme.

Technically, Jasper and I needed to have sex to make the bond irreversible, but it seems the rules aren’t always straightforward when it comes to fate bonds.

Jasper and I are already connected, both in life and in death.

I can absorb his death touch and he can withstand my voice. Whatever exchange is necessary to make the bond permanent could have already happened.

And right now, I can feel his spirit in a tug-of-war against Fallon and Daithi. One he might not survive.

And if Jasper dies, I’ll likely die with him. Fated bonds are forever.

It’s a gamble Daithi is going to take because he’d rather bring me with him to the death plane than allow me to live freely without him.

“Damn it!”Fallon curses, roaring in frustration as she releases Jasper. He’s left gasping for air as blood soaks the new suit I conjured for him. He’s clawing at his chest, desperate to stop his heart from beating.

Because he’s not supposed to be alive, not in the technical sense. Daithi is trying to force his body to be something it’s not.

And in doing so, it’ll give him a foothold to push Jasper’s spirit out and replace the void with his own.

Body swapping with my fated mate.

I’ve never heard of such a practice happening before, and if I were reading about this in a spell book, I would be fascinated by the technique.

But this isn’t a book. This isreal.

I place myself between Jasper and Fallon and face her down.

This is my problem,I tell her.If you truly want to help, then let me handle this.

Her hair flares around her, giving her an ethereal look. She’s a powerful witch, one who has power over death, just like me.

But I’m not afraid. My sister would do anything for me, even to her own detriment.

But will she do this? Will she walk away?

Her eyes burn with fury.Youweren’thandling it,she shoots back. And your problems are mine, too, Issy.

She balls her fingers into fists and stares me down. I know she’s not going to leave me.

Not willingly, anyway.

I glance at Nolan, knowing he’s going to have to do what I can’t. I point at the bottle in his hand and hope he gets what I’m trying to say.

Remove her by force if you have to, archangel.

He can’t hear my thoughts, but he can see the meaning in my eyes.

They’re going to have to give me a chance to handle this myself. In order to reclaim Jasper, I need to use my voice. And neither of them can be here for that.
