SLOANE

ONE YEAR LATER

“Shouldn’t these things be in the evening?” I said, yawning. “Like, when normal people are awake.”

Jace laughed, helping me out of the car and straightening the flowing silver dress I wore. “Most normal people are awake right now, baby girl.”

“Boring people,” I muttered.

I chose to leave my jacket behind. It was still warm enough, and the coat ruined the effect of the dress. Because it was designed to match what we were going to see.

That, and photographers were everywhere. They were crawling around the building and outside, taking pictures of us, though we weren’t what they were here for.

The Crown Spire was one of the tallest buildings in downtown Slate City, with the spire it was named for always sparkling above the rest of the skyline. And more importantly, today, it was the new home for Roman’s commissioned statue, along with a handful of artists tasked with bringing ‘Modern Classics’ to life.

People already wandered among all the art, and it was easy to see how people would flock here for it. The lobby now looked like a museum. But with the classic architecture, pillars, and painted ceilings, it felt natural, like it all worked together.

A platform sat in the middle of everything with a big red ribbon. I already saw the clusters of our friends over where they could watch. Roman would be the one cutting the ribbon. He wouldn’t say why or how he was chosen, but he went red just thinking about it, so I didn’t force him.

He didn’t say no, either.

Petra looked me up and down, smirking. “I see what you did there, Lo.”

“Do you? I haven’t even seen the finished product yet. Roman wouldn’t let me.”

“What?” Eva grabbed my hand. “Let’s go.”

No doubt some of the photographers outside were here for her.

I laughed. “He’s going to take me over there in a second. I’m not ruining the reveal for him.”

We both looked over to where our packs greeted each other. Over the last year they’d become friends out of necessity, since us four Omegas spent so much time together.

“Fine,” she said. “But I want to see your face.”

I looked at Petra again. “I can’t believe you’re actually here.”

A month ago Petra had her first solo concert, and since then she’d been touring, giving that concert everywhere. She’d barely had time to breathe, let alone be here.

“I wouldn’t miss it. Besides, I get a break for a couple weeks. After this I’m going home andsleeping.”

A soft laugh drew our eyes, her Alpha Blake covering his mouth. She looked at him and he shrugged. “If that’s what you think is happening.”

“You have other plans?”

“Oh, no. You’ll be sleeping. But there will probably be other things happening before you sleep.”

Petra sighed, but smiled when she looked at me. “They’re insatiable.”

“I know the feeling.”

Even now I felt their eyes on me, appreciation for the dress and the skin it revealed tingling inside my chest.

Esme stepped around Petra and hugged me. We’d gotten closer in the last year, all four of us. “You look great.”

“Thank you.”

She grinned. “I think Ben is going to lose his shit. He’s such a nerd when it comes to art.”
