“It’s okay. I’m getting better. Haven’t had any nightmares in a few days, and I finally rescheduled my interview with the orchestra.”

“That’s great,” I said. “And you came to my show, so you’re getting out of the house.”

She pinned me with a stare. “Can we talk about that, by the way? Because holyfuckyou were so good, Lo.”

“Thank you. I’ll be honest, I don’t remember most of it.”

“It’s a damn good thing they recorded it,” Eva pointed at me. “Because I need to see you dancing through a fucking heat.”

I shook my head and tipped back the last of the white wine in my glass. We hadn’t drunk enough to make any of us more than tipsy, and even then it had been long enough for me to be pretty much sober. Pulling out my phone, I checked the time. No texts from my Alphas. There were some from Craig, but I ignored them.

“Oh my god, look at her,” Eva said. “You’re literally pouting.”

“I am not.”

“Do you have any texts from them?”

“No.”

“See? Pouting. You checked your phone and your whole face dropped.”

I said nothing, and Eva caught it. “What?”

“Nothing.”

She pounced, moving faster than I thought possible given how deep she was in the bean bag. My phone was in her hand, and since it was already unlocked…

“Don’t worry, I’m not going dumpster diving for your weird sex texts.”

“I don’t have any weird sex texts, Eva,” I said, slowly stretching my legs out and doing a split, enjoying the gentle pull in my hamstrings. Even though rehearsals didn’t start back for another week, I needed to get back to class. My body was feeling the lack of training already. Tomorrow I’d make Ash go with me.

“Lo, this is way worse than you said it was.”

Petra held her hand out for the phone. “Let me see.”

I shrugged. “Yeah. It’s bad. But what can I do about it? We’re already moving me out of my apartment and doing our best tonotsee him. The only other thing I could do is block his number, and I don’t want to do that. Because if he goes further down this path, I want a warning.

“It’s not like I can hide. I’m not giving up my career because I made a mistake, fucked the wrong guy, and he somehow has it in his head that I belong to him.”

“We should tell Harrison,” Petra said.

“What’s he going to do?”

“I don’t know, but he could do something.”

I looked at her. “I don’t need a bodyguard, Bee. And I’m not saying that because I’m stubborn. I’m saying that because I already have four of them, and they get to keep me safeandgive me orgasms, so it really wouldn’t be fair to anyone else.”

We all collapsed into giggles, and she tossed my phone at me. “There. You don’t have to be sad anymore.”

Glancing down at the screen, there was a text from Gabriel saying they were almost here. “Stormy,” I whispered. “Want to race me downstairs?”

Her ears perked up, and when I moved quickly, she jumped up, hunching down and ready to pounce for whatever game I was playing.

Sprinting, a playful snarl came out of her as she came after me, giving into the fun of running and passing me on the stairs without stopping. I was never going to beat a literal leopard down the stairs, clouded or not.

“Woah, girl.” I heard Emery’s voice before I rounded the last corner. Stormy was on her back legs, paws on his chest while he stroked her ears. “Hey, Sloane.”

“My pack is almost here.”
