“Well, that sounds interesting,” she replied, snaking her hand around his waist and pulling him in tight. “Can’t it wait a bit longer?” she asked seductively.

He moaned. Pulling himself back, his cock was already hard and eager for her. “No, come on,” he forced himself to say. “This is too important to wait any longer.”

He pulled her from the shower and chucked a towel at her. “It must be important,” she said, quickly drying herself. “Come on. Don’t keep me in suspense. What is it?”

“I can sense your wolf crying to get out,” he replied.

“Me too,” she said excitedly. “I thought it was because we are bonded.”

“I would say it is,” he said. “But I’m wondering if you can actually shift now. I could always sense your wolf before, but it was like it was trapped behind a barrier. Now it’s right below the surface.”

“That’s exactly how it feels for me, too. But the same thing happened with Addison after she mated. She’s my twin, and she still can’t shift, so I may not be able to either.”

“You won’t know until you try,” Fletcher said.

They were both naked as they went back through to his office. He looked at Madison, her damp hair falling in waves around her face, her eyes alight with the fires of hope.

He took both of her hands in his and looked deep into her eyes. “I know you can do this,” he said earnestly. “I believe in you.”

He could see she was having trouble holding back the emotion at his words. Her eyes welled with unshed tears, and a look of determination came over her face. She nodded once. “Right, let’s do this thing,” she said.

“Okay,” he replied. “The process should happen quite naturally once it’s started. It can be painful if you try to fight it or rush it, so just stay calm and allow it to happen.”

“Okay,” she said, taking a deep calming breath.

“Great,” he replied. “Okay, close your eyes. Can you feel your wolf there?”

“Yes, I feel her,” she replied with a smile.

“All you need to do is step aside and let her take control.”

Madison frowned as she concentrated, but nothing happened.

“It’s okay,” said Fletcher. “Don’t fight it. It’s as natural as the wind and rain. This is something you were born to do. Imagine the earth beneath your paws and the scent of pine and wild water in your nostrils. Imagine running into the night with your nose to the ground and the wind in your fur. Sitting on a rock under a full moon and howling into the night, your brothers and sisters calling back to you from the forest surrounding you.”

He could see it was working. There was a subtle change in her posture, a realigning of the features of her face. “That’s great,” he said encouragingly. “Now, just invite your wolf to take control.”

When it happened, it happened swiftly and easily. She shifted like she’d been doing it her entire life.

And her wolf was magnificent.

Her coat was a dark reddish-brown, paling to blond around her neck, down her chest, and along the underside of her tail.

“You are so beautiful,” he breathed, running his hand over her fur.

She moved her head around, obviously trying to see herself. He led her into the hallway, where there was a full-length mirror on the wall. But he knew she’d see things differently in wolf form, so he switched on the camera on his phone and took some pictures to show her later.

He couldn’t help running his hands through her soft coat again, but she nudged his hand away and turned toward the door, looking back at him expectantly.

He didn’t need to be asked twice. With glee, he allowed his wolf to take control and shifted.

For a while, they played in the hallway, running up and down, chasing each other and play-fighting. But they both knew what she craved. Fletcher pushed open the door to the outside world.

For a moment, Madison stood stock still in the doorway, her nose twitching and her ears moving backward and forward. It had been so long since Fletcher's first shift that he couldn’t remember it. He couldn’t imagine what it would be like to shift for the first time as an adult, experiencing all the sights and sounds anew.

After a while, she turned and looked at him. He could tell by their invisible bond that she was ready. As one wolf, they leapt through the open door and bolted across the courtyard into the forest beyond.

The telepathic bond that they now shared since mating opened a wealth of possibilities. They instinctively knew where the other was and what they were going to do. He had heard about the link that the mating bond would trigger but hadn’t really known what to expect. They ran parallel through the forest, their paths interweaving.
