“Lily and I thought it would be nice for you to recover in new pajamas,” he said. “She loves new jammies. She picked out quite a few sets for you.”

I almost cried. “She’s such a sweet girl.”

“I know,” he said. “Now, I’ve got your bed all made up. Do you want to go to bed or do you want to watch TV downstairs for a bit.”

“My bed?” I asked softly.

He smiled and gently lifted my chin. “Trust me, I want you back in my bed, but not until you’re healed. I know how much pain you’re in. I’m not about to fling my arm over you while I’m sleeping and cause you more pain. When it’s time for you to come to bed, you’ll be healed.”

“I think you have impure motives.” I giggled.

“I do, but I think you were right before,” he said. “I want to take things slow for Lily’s sake. While we were running around today, she asked if you were moving in. I told her you were going to be staying with us for a while. She asked if we were in love.”

“She did?” I asked.

“She did,” he answered.

“What’d you say?” I asked.

He flashed a cocky smile that made me wish I was healthy and able to crawl into his bed. “I told her to be patient.”

He carried me downstairs. Lily jumped off the couch and rushed to a chair. “We got you a new cozy blanket!”

“You guys!” I smiled.

“I get new cozy blankets when I’m sick,” Lily said. “Look, I got a purple one and you got a pink one.”

“Oh, so soft,” I said.

Lily tucked it around me, being so careful not to hurt me.

I sat on the couch, wrapped in my cozy blanket with Ramsey beside me. His presence was a source of comfort and support. Lily snuggled up on the other side, her warmth and innocence bringing a smile to my face.

As we settled in to watch a movie, the room filled with a sense of tranquility. The chaos of the accident felt distant, replaced by the simple joy of being together. Ramsey’s hand brushed against mine, a gentle touch that sent a shiver of electricity through me.

Lily fell asleep almost immediately. I imagined she was exhausted after the last two days. I gently stroked her hair, feeling so grateful she was okay.

“When I thought you were seriously injured in the accident,” Ramsey continued, his voice slightly trembling, “I realized just how much you mean to me. I was terrified, Dee. The thought of losing you was unbearable.”

Tears welled up in my eyes, my own emotions mirroring his. I reached out, clasping his hand in mine, needing the connection as much as he did. “I’m right here.”

“I hope you’ll stay here for a good long while.”

As I sat there, nestled between the two people who had become my family, I felt a profound sense of gratitude. The accident had shaken us, but it had also brought us closer, allowing our love to flourish in the face of adversity.

Ramsey smiled at his daughter. “That’s the most beautiful sight I’ve ever seen,” he whispered.

I looked down at her and felt genuine love for her. She was such a sweet, caring child. She was the kind of daughter I would want for myself.

“I’m going to carry her up to bed,” he whispered. “I’ll be back down for you.”

“I can try and walk,” I said.

“Dee, if your sweet little ass gets off this couch without me, I’m going to spank you,” he said.

I smiled. “Don’t tease me.”

“Stop it,” he growled. “You know I can’t touch you. I hope you heal fast.”
