“You didn’t answer about your uncle.”

“What? Oh, no. He knows I went to a fight tonight, and so long as I show up for training tomorrow after school, he’ll just assume I crashed somewhere.” He crawled over me, his head bending, and this time, his mouth caught mine.

Oooh! Pleasure swirled through me, electrifying me, making my tummy tingle. I gasped, my mouth opening, and his tongue slid inside. Oh boy. I was really, really happy we’d decided not to go with the no-kissing rule I offered.

Scout could kiss.

I reached up, wound my arms around him, and pulled him down to me.

I wanted to feel good.

I fell asleep after, and when I woke hours later, Scout had a leg pushed between mine and one arm wrapped tight around my waist. The second time I woke, I looked over. He was still in the bed but turned away, his back curled and one of his legs half off the bed.

I looked up at the clock—just after six. My mom would be coming home around the time I needed to be getting up.

But if he’d parked on the street . . . I stopped caring and fell back asleep.

The third time I woke, I felt something rubbing my clit and gasped, realizing it was his mouth between my legs.

Scout lifted his head. His eyes were dark, stormy, but drowsy too. “Is that okay?”

In answer, I took his head and pushed it back down. I was groaning and falling apart not long after, and then he was back over me, sliding inside. He went all the way to the hilt, pausing as I wound my legs and arms around him.

He began to move.

The fourth time I woke to my alarm.

I was alone in bed. Scout’s keys, clothes, phone, and wallet were gone.

I reached over and snoozed my alarm for another ten minutes.

I was going to need it.

SCOUT

Alex: We need to talk.

I had one guess what that was about.

Me: Just parked at school. Where do you want to do this?

I grabbed my keys and my bag, and my phone buzzed again as I was getting out of my truck.

Alex: The old weight room.

Of all the ironies. That building was only used by a few of the athletes and it was right next to the tree square where I fucked Ramsay.

Me: omw

I started for the football field because both were in that direction.

Cohen: Staring at you going the wrong way, dude.

Me: Alex needs to talk.

Cohen: Everything okay?

Me: Stay tuned

Cohen: Shit.

Amalia: HE LEAKED THE PICTURE OMG OMG OMG HE LEAKED THE PICTURE

Shit.

Double shit. That was not good.

Me: I need to handle something, but we’ll figure this out. Don’t worry, okay?

She buzzed through, but I was already texting Cohen.

Me: That thing we were worried about with Amalia and Rice just happened.

Cohen: WHAT? She’s blowing up my phone.

Me: I’m pretty sure that’s illegal, but I don’t know. I need to talk to Alex. Can you grab Amalia and take off to the police station? Call my uncle.

Cohen: Dude. I’m calling MY uncle.

Me: He’s good too.

Which he was because he was a detective.

Me: I’ll call Miles and let him know what’s going on.

Cohen: Sounds good, and I’m not responding anymore. Amalia’s freaking out. Taking care of her first.

Me: I’ll hook up with you in a bit.

I stopped just short of walking into the old weight building because, fuck. Fuuuck. If anything could go wrong today, I had a feeling it was going to happen. Today was a ‘brace day.’ You braced for what was going to happen, and I needed to prioritize.

Alex first because I was here and he was here. We were going to have some real honest best friend bullshit going on, but after that, Amalia.

This shit was not good.

The door opened. Alex said from the doorway, “You coming in or what?”

Right.

“I’m coming in.”

RAMSAY

Theresa was at my locker, waiting for me as I approached. She was alone.

“Hey.”

She straightened, glancing around. “Hey.”

I looked too. “No Gem?”

She shook her head, glancing down, and some of her hair fell forward over her shoulder. “I asked her to do something in the library for me.”

I opened my locker, stowing my bag inside. “You did that on purpose?”

Her head lifted. Regret flashed over her face. Her mouth tightened, but then her face cleared. She raised her chin up and shrugged. “I wanted to talk to you first.”

I waited, grabbing my phone, my book, my notebook, and my pen.

I was still waiting by the time I grabbed all that, going slow too.

“Okay.” She rolled her eyes. “I took off last night and I didn’t check on you. I’m sorry for doing that.” She looked away before focusing on me again. “I shouldn’t have done that. I should’ve texted you or called you, or something. Honestly, I should’ve thrown a huge fit to make sure you were okay going with Scout, but I didn’t. And I didn’t do that because in that moment last night, I chose Kunz.” The regret was there again. She grimaced. “I’m really ashamed. Shit’s going down between my guy and Raiden, and Raiden scoops you because I get it. You’re part of his side because of his friendship with your cousins, and I figured you might be better off with Raiden, but still. You came with me and Kunz, and I should’ve gone ballistic in trying to get to you.”
