“What the hell are you talking about?”

“I never broke off my engagement to Miles. I was just messing with you to make him jealous.”

What nonsense is she saying now?

“I was tired of watching you treat people like dirt.” Shanel plants her hands on her hips. “You acted like Miles was less than you. Plus, you humiliated all those girls. I figured you deserved to be humiliated right back.”

I stand in place, sorting through her words and rejecting them one by one.

“Don’t you get it, man?” Miles saunters up to me, a smug grin on his face. “You got—”

I punch him.

He goes flying into the crowd.

Shanel gasps. “Miles!”

Before she can run to him, I grab her by the waist, pull her flush against me and claim her mouth.

Her eyelids flutter together.

Her lips cave to mine, falling open to admit my tongue.

I plunge in. Angrily smash our lips together.

It’s harsh and violent and messy and I’m not surprised when she pushes me back and tries to slap me.

I snatch her wrist.

Watch her breathe fire through her nostrils.

Watch her chest heave.

Annoyance makes my tone hard. “Don’t lie to me.”

Her eyes sharpen. “Who said I was—?”

“You want me. Just as much as I want you.”

Her jaw drops. “Bastard.”

“I felt it just now. I felt it last night.”

Scandalized whispers burst to life at my words.

I ignore the crowd. “What the hell is this really about?”

Miles groans from the floor. He’s slowly getting up with the help of some girls who he angrily shrugs off. A thumb dabs at the blood on his bottom lip.

Shanel says nothing.

Damn.

I don’t have the patience for this.

Glancing around, I growl out, “I need the hallway.”

No one moves.
