Because you’re Hawk’s true love.

“I know what she did to you was horrible,” Catherine places her hand on mine, “but she’s been nothing but kind to me. She says us scholarship kids should stick together. It feels really nice.” She sighs gratefully. “Being accepted. I was so scared when I transferred here. Lassandra’s rough around the edges, but she’s just misunderstood.”

I scrunch my nose. “Don’t trust her.”

“Why not?”

“Just take my word for it.” I grab a pillow and collapse belly-up on the bed.

This is frustrating. In the movie, Catherine’s first day at Brighton Academy was jam-packed with conflict. She ran into Hawk; she got bullied by Lassandra, and she befriended Kaz.

My eyes flit up.

Today, Hawk met me.

Lassandra kicked my butt.

Catherine became my friend.

I gulp.

I hi-jacked the main lead’s storyline.

“What’s wrong?” Catherine asks.

“I’m thirsty. You want something to drink?” I hop off the bed and pad to the sprawling kitchen to grab a mug of iced tea. My fingers grip the solid neck of the battle for dear life.

This is fine. I can fix this.

It’s a good thing I’ve watched the film hundreds of times.

I know every important scene.

All the iconic lines.

All the dreamy moments between Hawk and Catherine.

First things first.

They need to bump into each other.

It all starts with that first glance.

The next day, I walk down the halls with Catherine, keeping my eyes peeled for Hawk and anticipating the moment he’ll catch sight of his leading lady.

I feel a little silly strolling around in this schoolgirl outfit, but seeing all these other twenty-somethings rocking their Brighton Academy logos and khakis does make me feel better.

“Something’s going on.” Catherine gestures to the crowd stirring in front of us.

“It’s B4.” I tighten my fingers on my coffee. Hook my arm through Catherine’s. Breathe steadily.

Go time.

“Here,” I offer the cup. “Do you want this?”

She scrunches her nose. “I’m good.”

“Take it.”
