“She dumped him. I wasn’t responsible for that.”

“How do you think Miles is feeling?” Barclay insists.

“Why do you think I’m this calm after he threw glass at me?”

Barclay cringes. “Still…”

“I like her.”

Miles barks out a laugh. “Bull. The guy who can’t keep a relationship for longer than a month is serous about someone?”

“I’ve never had a relationship.”

“What do you call all those girls—?”

“Those girls,” I slosh the amber liquid around in my glass, “meant nothing.”

They never made me feel this way. Like a part of me that was missing came home. Even comparing them to Shanel is blasphemy.

Barclay smirks. “She’s just a girl. It can’t be that serious.”

“He’s right. She’s nothing.” Miles sneers. “She’s useless except for her family’s money.”

“Maybe to you.” I take a sip to hide my flexing jaw. I’m pissed about the way he’s talking about Shanel and it’s hard for me to keep my composure when I really want to punch his face. “She’s more to me.”

“What about her could you possibly find attractive?”

I run my finger over the rim of my glass. “Everything.”

Miles looks bewildered.

“I like her.” I shrug. Take a sip of the brandy. “It’s that simple.”

“She’s engaged.” Miles taps his chest. “To me.”

“Not anymore.”

“It’s not over.”

I arch an eyebrow.

“I won’t let you take her from me,” Miles growls.

“Hm.”

“I’ll get her back.”

“You can try.” I set the brandy down. “To a certain point. But if you cross the line, I won’t hold myself back.”

His eyes darken. “You back-stabbing bastard.”

“Alright! Cut it out!” Barclay grabs my drink and knocks back the rest. “Damn, you’re raising my blood pressure. Can we not fight about this? B4 is stronger than some petty argument over a girl. Right?” He glances at Miles. “Right?”

No one answers.

“You know what? I’m outta here.” Miles grabs his jacket and stalks to the elevator.

I head to the bar.
