Fitz joins me, a serious look in his eyes. “This girl… were you messing around with her while she was with Miles?”

“No.”

Fitz surveys my expression. “Good.”

Barclay sighs. “Why does everything you do have to be so damn scandalous?”

“It’s a gift.”

“I don’t remember much about Miles’s fi—” At my dark look Barclay amends, “I mean, Shanel, but from what I can recall she seemed a little soft. Can she handle you?”

“What does that mean?”

“Not everyone will be happy you’re off the market. People are gonna come after her.”

“She’s stronger than you think.”

“If you say so.”

I meet Fitz’s eyes. “I’m not trying to break up B4.”

“Maybe you’re not trying.” He taps his fingers on the counter. “But you’re getting mighty close.”

I knock my drink back. Is it callous of me to say that I don’t care?

What I’m worrying about is seeing Shanel tonight.

Convincing her to go out with me.

Spending time with her.

Learning more about her.

Just thinking about seeing her makes me so freaking giddy I’m about to burst.

She’s what I want.

And what I want I get.

Nothing will stand in my way.

Not even B4.

Barclay rests his elbows on the counter. “I hear you’re taking her out tonight.”

Fitz leans forward with interest.

“Where?” Barclay asks.

“Posh.”

“That new restaurant? Fancy.”

I lift a shoulder in a dismissive shrug. “I guess.”

Barclay stares at me. “Did you make a reservation?”

“No.”
