That’s my whole plan.

But, all of a sudden, I kind of wished I’d dressed up.

Came up with another plan.

Done anything other than show the unvarnished, undressed, natural side of me.

Because if he rejects me now…

I don’t know why, but I think a part of me would be upset.

“You look…” He rubs his chin.

I brace myself for the truth. “Awful?”

“Comfortable.”

My smile falls flat. “Huh?”

Nonplussed, he pulls out his phone. “I’ll cancel our reservation and just take you back to my place. You don’t have to change.”

Groans of disappointment ripple behind him.

I blink rapidly. “You’re not… you still want to date me?”

Hawk calls someone on his cell. “Linda, tell Chef Franco to prepare something delicious for dinner tonight. Set the table for two.”

My heart is pounding.

He’s still here.

Why isn’t he running for the hills?

Why isn't he insulting me?

Hawk puts the phone away. “Do you like steak?”

I nod absently.

Hawk slips his phone into his pocket and puts his hand on the small of my back. “Shall we?”

I shake my head. “You’re serious?”

“Of course.”

“You still want me?”

He faces me fully, his stare turning intense again. Those eyes are moving liquid, so freaking arresting that I can’t even dream of turning away.

Tension pools in my shoulders.

Even with the thoughtfulness on his face, he still exudes danger. He still commands fearful awe.

Dark eyebrows slash over eyes that simmer ocean-blue.

His fingers curve into my waist. “Why do I get the feeling you’re trying to sabotage?”

My mouth twitches.
