Page 27 of Twenty Ways To Fall

I had time for a quick shower. I stripped down and walked to the bathroom. If I washed my hair, it’d take too long to dry and straighten. Pulling it up into a bun on top of my head, I caught sight of myself in the mirror.

If Draven thinks for a minute that I’m going swimming with him, he’s wrong. No way am I going to ever let anyone see my ear. Not ever.

He wouldn’t look at me the same way if he saw my disfigured ear or the scar across my scalp. If it wasn’t for me having such long thick hair, it would be impossible to hide. Logan had mentioned that he knew plastic surgeons that might be able to help.Maybe when I go back to the States, I’ll talk to him more about that option.

Turning away from the mirror, I got into the shower. No longer wanting to think about my own problems I forced myself to think about Tabiq.

Draven had mentioned that not all the girls that were taken had gone missing. Many were left to return to their families. He didn’t need to tell me that they weren’t in the same mental or physical shape as they were before they’d been snatched from their homes. Sadly, those survivors didn’t have the benefit of counseling to help them cope after their…assault.

That was another thing I needed to talk to Draven about. Or maybe I should ask Ressa. This was her country, and these were her people. She would know what was best for them.Unlike the corrupt bastards that ran it before her.

I’d added something to my list, or job duties that weren’t mine to handle. I needed to know what they were doing for all the victims. Not talking wasn’t healthy. I knew that not just professionally, but from personal experience.Tomorrow I will see if Draven wants to schedule a meeting for us with Reesa to discuss this.

As I got out of the shower and toweled myself dry, my mind wouldn’t shut off. It was still on the survivors. To have gone through such a horrible ordeal, they must be strong women. Why can’t we talk to those women and see if they could help us?Who better would know what the women faced than those who also went through it?

Quickly I dressed, grabbed my room key card, and headed to meet Draven on the beach. I couldn’t wait to see him. I had so much I wanted to talk about. We had so much work ahead of us, that was if we could gain the approval from Reesa.

It didn’t take me long to spot the table. There was an umbrella with twinkling lights hanging all around it, and the table was set with candles on it as well.

Shit. This doesn’t look like a business meeting. It’s not supposed to be a date either.

He’d already seen me approaching so I couldn’t send a text message saying I had a headache or was tired from all the research. Nope. I needed to smile and join him. But somehow, I was also going to need to tastefully remind him why I was in Tabiq.

And it has nothing to do with your gorgeous dark eyes and muscular build Mr. Blaze.

I took the seat opposite him. “You look nice,” he said.

“Figured I should dress comfortably if we are going to walk the beach later.” Part of me hoped that wasn’t going to take place. A moonlit starry night alone on the beach was more than my willpower was going to handle.

“Probably shouldn’t say this, but I like this look even better than the blue dress.”

You’re right. You shouldn’t.

“It’s what I would wear if I was at home. Well, I also love my oversized sweatpants and fuzzy slippers, but this is a five-star resort. I couldn’t go more casual than this,” I joked.

“I have an extra pair of sweats if you want to borrow them. Fuzzy slippers? Well, you’re on your own for those,” he laughed.

Borrowing clothes from my boss was too intimate. “Thanks, but I am all set.” I changed the subject and said, “You were right, the beach is lovely.”

“I’m glad you agreed to join me. Did you get any rest this afternoon?” he asked.

I shook my head. “I spent hours doing research. And before you ask, let’s just say that I should’ve listened to you. There is nothing out there.” I really looked.

“Like I said, these people are very private. That doesn’t mean that we give up,” he stated.

“Oh, I have no intention of doing that. Actually, I was thinking about maybe expanding our search,” I said.

“In what way?” he asked.

“Not just looking for the missing women, but I think we should expand and talk to the survivors as well.”

“That’s not going to be easy,” he replied. “And we would be opening up old wounds and I’m not sure how that will affect them.”

“That’s a valid point. I was thinking that we could speak to Reesa about this and get her point of view on it. What do you think?” I asked.

“It would be her decision. How about I call her tomorrow and set up some time for us to meet with her?” he offered.

“That would be great.”This was a lot easier than I thought.
