Page 29 of Twenty Ways To Fall

Nodding, I said, “Good way to look at it.”Not that I’d want to live that way.

The waitress brought over our food and we continued to chat while we ate. The more I looked for something I didn’t like about Draven, the more I found things that only made me fall even further.

Did you call Diana and ask what I want in a guy because you’re hitting every mark.

But I had to reel in my emotions and stick to the facts. He was my boss. There was nothing more for me to really know about him.

Yet I want to know everything.

“I don’t know about you, but I can’t eat another bite,” I admitted.

“How about we walk off some of this food?”

“Sounds good,” I replied.

So much for making an excuse not to walk on the beach.

I had it all worked out in my head. Yet, I didn’t utter one of those excuses I’d come up with. Maybe it’s because I really wanted to go.

When did I stop thinking with my head?

As we headed further down the beach, I wondered if he was going to try to hold my hand. Maybe kiss me. Neither should happen, but damn it, I wanted both. Both and a hell of a lot more.

But Draven kept his word. He said it was just a walk, and that’s all it was. Even when we sat in the sand to count the shooting stars, he kept his distance. I respected him for that. Also a bit disappointed. This was the most romantic night I’d had in a long time, and there was no romance happening.

“It’s getting late, and we should head back,” he said.

I brushed off the sand on my shorts and we headed towards the resort. “Thanks again for dinner. It was nice.”

“Want to do it again tomorrow?” he asked.

Not sure my libido can handle it.

“As long as you don’t let me eat as much as I did tonight,” I replied.

“Okay. I’ll order us salads.” We arrived at the elevator and he said, “Sweet dreams, Kinsley.”

Oh, they are going to be.

“Good night, Draven.” I pushed the button for the fourth floor and the doors closed. Only then did I relax.

I must learn how to say no to that man.

One problem. I didn’t want to.

When I got in my room, my phone rang. I checked the caller ID. It was Diana.

Sorry, girl. Can’t talk to you tonight. The last thing I need is your picking up on what I’m feeling.

I let her call go to voicemail. But it rang right away again.

Before I answered it to confirm everything was okay, I checked the caller ID. It was Brian.

Is everyone going to check up on me every night? Really, I don’t need babysitters.

I ignored his call as well.

There was only one thing I needed, and that was to figure out what it was about Draven that I couldn’t get him out of my mind. He was becoming a distraction. A very sweet one, but still a distraction. There were people here who needed my help. Our help. We couldn’t let them down.
